Studies Predict Fred Thompson Has 77% Chance he will die by 2017
Edited on Wed Apr-25-07 02:36 PM by Dems Will Win

Likely GOP Prez candidate Fred Thompson has indolent lymphoma. Unfortunately, he has at least 2 risk factors, giving him only a 23% chance of surviving 10 years.

Factors for Predicting Outlook in Indolent Lymphomas. Six risk factors are proving to be useful for predicting outlook:

  • Being male.
  • Being older.
  • Having stage III or IV disease.
  • Elevated levels of the enzyme lactate dehydrogenase (LDH).
  • The presence of B symptoms.
  • Erythrocyte sedimentation rate over 30.

Patients with a good chance for a positive outcome (65% chance for survival rates of 10 years or greater) have one or none of these factors; those with intermediate risk (23%) have two factors, and those likely to have a poor outcome (11%) have three or more factors.

He could serve 2 full terms despite the disease. More power to Thompson if he tries to run, people should not let an illness stop them...

1. Is it really "indolent" lymphoma?
Sounds like it refuses to get off the couch and look for a job.

2. That's why we have vice-presidents.

I wouldn't vote for him if he were going to live to 3017 but we have a procedure for Presidents dieing.

3. I'm sorry.
But the stress of taking over the helm of a failed Presidency could decrease his survival rate immensely.
I'd say the same EVEN if it was Al Gore.
We don't need a President with this variable in the condition this country is in.
We don't get a chance to vote for the VP--we vote for the ticket.
So how would you feel if they paired up old Fred with Jeb?
Assuring another Bush presidency?
I'm sorry. Apples and oranges when talking about someone who already holds an office and gets sick than to knowingly elect someone who has a potentially fatal condition.
It is the ESSENCE of insanity.

6. Would the stress of being President not be helpful in keeping lymphoma at bay?
You'd think it wouldn't be good.

10. What exactly is the point of this post? Why go to the trouble
of calculating the survival odds for a GOP not-yet-a-candidate with cancer? Weird. Of course incurable blood cancer will keep him out of the WH--that is as it should be. No one's going to bet on a sick horse. We deserve as healthy a president as we can get. And we deserve a Democrat. So really, why the post?

Plus everyone knows he has indolent lymphoma but I never heard anyone talk about how lousy his odds actually were....

So I looked it up -- if the press starts reporting this 77% number I think Thompson's candidacy could have an extremely low survival rate.
