Rep. Barney Frank plans bill to undo Net-gambling ban

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- In a move that may help buoy gaming stocks, House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank said Wednesday that he plans to introduce a bill Thursday to undo restrictions on Internet gambling.

Speaking to a community bankers group, the Massachusetts Democrat called Internet gambling a "victimless crime."

"Why anyone thinks it is any of my business why some adult wants to gamble is absolutely beyond me," Frank said.

Current law prevents U.S. banks and credit-card companies from processing payments to online-gambling businesses outside the country.

1. That's the only piece of legislation my old rep, Jim Leach

even introduced in his last 15 years or so. And even at that the Pukes sat on itfor 10 years before suddenly, one day out of the blue, they decide to debate and pass it. Seems polls had him dead even with the man who would replace him.
The crux of the bill is not anti-gambling, but making casino gambling OK while making internet gambling harder. Banks hated it and from what I have heard, have essentially ignored enforcing it.
