I want to hear from fans of podcasts by Tragedy and Hope
Edited on Mon Jan-25-10 12:48 PM by Chiquitita
Hey fellow DU'ers I don't post very often but I'm here everyday. Is there anyone else out there who has listened to these podcasts by Tragedy and Hope magazine? I've found them very engrossing, and challenging to say the least. Especially since they are so critical of our educational system (I am a teacher). I'd love to know what others think. One of their main points is that the Western classical system of education based on the seven liberal arts (the Trivium: grammar, logic, rhetoric & the Quadrivium: Arithmetic, Geometry, Music and Physics) has been purposefully withheld since the late 19th century to dumb us down and keep folks unable to think critically.

1. I think you're condescending.
The U.S. has the finest universities in the world.

One would have to have experience with both international and US universities to affirm that what you have said is true. I'd like to believe it, but there is always room for improving our education. Anyway, I'm talking mainly about non-tuition k12.

To those of you who would deign to speak to me, I'd love to hear what you think of the podcast. They are referencing John Taylor Gatto and Gene Odening's discussion on the Trivium from the Recent Gnosticmedia.com podcast. Frankly, I think both are brilliant and well worth a listen.
