Dictionary banned from school classroom
An American school has banned a dictionary from classrooms. Now the Menifee Union School District is forming a committee to decide if the dictionaries should be allowed back, or permanently banned. Sounds crazy? Read on...

The dictionary - the much-respected Merriam-Webster's Collegiate version - was pulled from classrooms after a parent at Oak Meadows Elementary School complained. This was because a child had found the definition of "oral sex" in the book (I'd guess it's there along with a lot of other "bad" words).

The decision was made without consultation with the local school board, and parent reaction has been mixed, with some parents in favour, saying that the books shouldn't be in use for young children (aged 9/10).

The books, which cost $24 each were, according to the Press Enterprise, bought to allow advanced readers to "look up words that they didn't know." However, spokesperson for the school district, Betti Cadmus, added that a committee would be looking into the issue and that it would "determine the extent to which the challenged material supports curriculum, the educational appropriateness of the material and its suitability to the age level of the students."

I think what we really have are a generation of parents who are morons.

6. I remember in 5th grade, the girl who sat next to me
brought a little pocket dictionary to school and showed it to me. It seemed like all of the words that were in any way related to sex or body parts/functions were highlighted.

2. Well, if they knew enough to look it up in the first place
seems to me they were already familiar with the word/term. They've evidently never ridden on a school bus. My son knew every "bad" word I'd ever heard of by the time he was in his second semester of first grade. At least the kids were showing scholarship by looking it up in the dictionary. :D

5. I'm more worried by the fact that "oral sex" apparently didn't define itself
Kinda dim kids, yeah?

8. What you guys didn't figure it out yet?
The dictionary is the reason abstinence don't work, kids look up the words and find loop holes so they can claim they aren't having sex. Really these folks are that dumb, if kids are clueless, they won't explore new things. A few years back 2 kindergartners were caught in the boys room having oral sex.

Instead of asking the kids why they were doing that the school called the cops and every male in the families of the 2 kids were investigated for sexual misconduct. Then the msm got a hold of the story and it went ballistic with people wanting family members locked up and the kids removed from the families. Later it was found out that the one boy found his older brothers porn collection and the msm did a very short 2 sentence statement in the back of the paper. The older brother was 13 and refused to say where he got the porn from.

12. Oh, FFS.
Are book burnings making a comeback again too? No wonder our children aren't learning anything. They have administrators who are anti-education.
