Health Care Strike: if piss poor bill passes
This country has no history of "general strikes" like, say, France. But I, for one (i'm paying about $600 a month for me and my partner to have "poor people's" insurance, this on an income of maybe $18,000) am NOT GOING TO PAY ANY INSURANCE the minute the gov't says i have to, without a decent public option... without any REAL reform. If we could start a petition/signup of those who already can't afford insurance, those of us who will NOT PAY under "duress," and others who are brave enough to jump ship on their private policies and those who can't afford to pay taxes on their employer-based insurance ... then maybe we would have our own "Insurance Strike." In other words, if the Obama Admin. wants to take care of their health insurance cronies rather than take care of US, then maybe we will just let them know we WILL NOT PONY UP. We stop paying. We will be like the rest of the indigent, and just trust our paltry lives to emergency care. What will it take for them to care about We the People?
Or maybe they think they can even outsource their own Cadillac Health Care to Indonesia?

6. civil disobedience often does
yet when its the only tool left to redress misuse of power, it can be quite effective...

And if enough people do it, you can overwhelm the system. Our rulers count on people being "self-policing..."

2. The last general strike was in 1952...
So there is a history.

But a general strike won't happen for other cultural reasons.

5. You really should familiarize yourself with the bill before making such
outrageous suggestions. With your income level, you'll likely qualify for Medicaid under the new plan.
