Long-term unemployment linked to more sex
Long-term unemployment linked to more sex

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Lengthy unemployment and poverty may increase sexual appetite and risky sexual behavior in young people, U.S. researchers said.

Matthew J. Davis, a Texas A&M University doctoral student, looked at the responses from 2,362 participants ages 21-27 concerning their sexual behavior, including number of partners, frequency and use of contraceptives.

The study, published in the journal Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity, showed people with higher rates of poverty were more likely to have sex more often with multiple partners and not utilize birth control and protection.

Davis divided the responses into regular and irregular workers -- those who had worked less than six months in the last two years -- and found irregular workers had greater sexual appetite and risk behaviors compared to regular workers.

Davis speculates two factors could be influencing the findings. First, as research indicates, employment provides a time structure, social contact and a larger sense of purpose -- acting as a shield against negative and addictive behaviors, Davis said.

4. Reminds me of a cartoon I saw years ago.
It showed a couple standing outside a trailer with a bunch of kids running around.

The caption was "Sex is the only entertainment we can afford".

9. Or could it be
That irresponsible people are just irresponsible about sex as well as irresponsible about finding and holding a job.

12. In this economy, assuming unemployment is a sign of irresponsibility makes one an asshole, at worst,
and at best painfully out of touch on a scale unheard of since Barbara Bush last opened her cakehole in public.

18. That is not what the poster said. Check the logic.
The poster did not imply that all unemployed people are irresponsible.
He said that irresponsible people are more likely to not hold down a job.

"All Republicans are wealthy" is different from "wealthy people are more likely to be Republican". There are many Republicans who are not wealthy.

There are reasons why irresponsible people would not "be able to hold down a job", but also plenty of reasons why people don't have jobs that have nothing to do with irresponsibility.

I happen to think that the real reason for this no-job-more-sex connection is due to time and energy, but that's another story.

20. So They Breed Like Animals, Right??
Also unemployment is a leading contributor to divorces...so the point is? When someone has nothin' better to do why not just do it? Right?

After hearing that shitstain from SC the other day, I could see the wingnuts grabbing a hold of this "info" and using it to "validate" his thesis...which I've heard from other rushpublicans...and a few fundies as well. And, for certain, it will be used to paint Democrats as immoral heathens...either for our "poor morals" or abetting the slackers with such superfluous things like welfare and food stamps. Just wait...Faux Noise is probably all over this thing...

Democrats in Brazos County have my sincerest condolences and respect.

24. Could it be for the escape and stress relief?
Also positive reinforcement of one's value in lieu of having a job. Frankly, by the time bedtime rolls around after a day at the office, I'm just ready to get some sleep.
