The last Straw
So, he is perfectly willing to allow defense spending to rise but not domestic spending.

That's it.

Done with him.

4. So Now What?
A serious question. I'm fed up as well, but not only with this administration but with the critics as well. What are the options, the alternatives, the solutions? And, no, I'm not interested in moving to Canada. So we sit back and let the bastards win I guess...surely a rushpublican House & Senate and President will make it all better.

6. We start looking for a Democratic Candidate (who may be an independent) to run against him in 2012

9. The Power of Incumbency
I'd be interesting in hearing suggestions of who that candidate would be...and no, not St. Dennis...let's be realistic. The problem with an independent, even if one is electable, is he/she would have two parties gunning for them rather than one. I don't see this as purely an Obama problem, but a partywide one...and Progressives are ready to take a hike and weaken their already weak position. Also if Teddy Kennedy (who I supported in the 80 primary) can't do it against a very weak President, I don't see anyone in the current Democratic party with the name recognition and fundraising power to overcome the large campaign war chest that is already being put together for Obama's re-election.

12. how about starting with those stimulus funds
only 1/3 have been spent.

Unemployment is at 10%. . . . still.

What are we waiting for . . . how about stimulating.

19. And Where Do You Spend It?
That's the tricky part. I'd favor a program of low costs loans and grants to assist small business but the corporates in the beltway will never go for that. Competition scares them. I'd be happy with a new New Deal to rebuild the crumbling infrastructure...power grids, roads and bridges, but that only helps a small part. Problem is this country outsourced itself into this mess...can't create jobs where no businesses exist and the laws and business climate are working against the little guy. If this administration was serious about job creation it would mandate banks that took TARP funds to offer low costs loans to those in need and loosen up the credit. So maybe the President is admitting there's little the government can do...except fund a war machine.

25. I fully agree with your first two suggestions - some help for
small business and start to fix the infrastructure. Need to get that unemployment rate to budge off 10%. Even a small nudge might start a stimulation of the economy.

And I fear your final conclusion may be correct. The only thing we build ourselves these days is conflict and war. We are pretty good at sustaining those once triggerred.

13. Maybe that will make it better in the long run.
Let a Sarah Palin-type totally screw the pooch for another four years, and maybe this country will be ready for a truly progressive candidate.

18. I Heard The Same Thing in 2000 and 2004...
and how did that work out? But who cares what I think...it's all about socring political points these days. The country will never be ready...it will need to be sold and Democrats have a poor track record in that area. Reality is the Democrats didn't win as much as the GOOP and it's ineptness lost.

21. I can't take much more...
its already readily apparent that the Democratic Party has used our hopes and better angels against us to win elections in 2006 and 2008, but now they are showing their true colors and it hurts.

It hurts really, really bad.

I cannot possibly vote for this again, but I can't possibly watch the keys of the nation handed over to someone of Sarah Palin's ilk either...when there are no acceptable options, then the unthinkable starts to become the inevitable...

33. Defense spending
Is a systemic problem in the US. Obama is not going to go heads up against that problem until he has a great deal of backing. As it stands, defense spending mollifies a majority of the people and also belies the accusations that democrats are weak on defense.

I don't like it, but that is the way it is. We may be able to force a change in the long run, but short term it is something we're gonna have to live with.
