1. I hope this never backfires . . . but I certainly trust the Clinton Foundation
It gets aid to Haiti and . . . as a minor, inconsequential benefit - it puts a little stinger in rush's anal cyst

3. Partners in Health; Doctors without Borders, I know less about CARE but hear its good in Haiti

go with one with not only a good track record but that has been established in Haiti for awhile so its not starting from scratch - at least for any long term aid

4. CRS
I gave to The Catholic Relief Services. Only 6 cents of every dollar goes to administrative costs.

7. There are many out there...
...but whichever one you choose, be sure to check them out first at Charity Navigator: http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.alpha

This group rates charities with *'s with **** being the highest. They also give other info including the salaries of their CEO's. That's one area I always check and refuse to give a donation to any charity which pays its CEO more than $250,000...wish I made a fraction of that when I was working!

It's also one of the reasons why I refuse to give to The American Red Cross...Gail J. McGovern - President, CEO - $565,000. I resent that a small portion of my donation will go toward paying that outrageous salary.

BTW, I made my donation to Drs. Without Borders and plan on making my next one to Partners In Health...both rated **** and pay reasonable salaries to their CEO's.

8. This is good advice and a helpful link.
I've made donations to Doctors Without Borders and the Clinton Foundation, both of which have a 4-star rating, primarily because they were already well established in Haiti and I felt that they might have a quicker response time than some of the other organizations.

9. Additional info
This is part of an email I just received from DFNYC:

5. How can we help Haiti?

Haitians are reeling from the devastating earthquake that struck their country on Tuesday, January 12. This magnitude 7.0 quake struck about 10 miles (15 kilometers) southwest of the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince causing mass destruction. The extent of the disaster remains unknown, but it is thought that well over one hundred thousand are dead and over a million people have been left homeless. Reports of devastating shortages of food, surgical supplies, and other life-saving material continue.

Money is the fastest and most efficient way to send support. We suggest you research organizations that offer relief directly to Haitians. Let us know if you have recommendations for these donations.

The following relief organizations were recommended by journalist Kim Ives of Haiti Liberte (reporting from Haiti) and/or Haitian-American novelist Edwidge Danticat. These are organizations already in place who have been working in Haiti before the earthquake, and will continue after the initial relief effort.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontiere (MSF)

Haiti Emergency Relief Fund

Partners In Health (Co-founded by Dr. Paul Farmer, President Clinton's Deputy UN Special Envoy to Haiti)

_________

I've read and heard lots of good feedback re: the work of Partners In Health.
