Leftists slam capitalism at Social Forum in Brazil
PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil

Thousands of leftists from around the world are converging in Brazil to rail against unfettered capitalism at the World Social Forum.

It's the annual alternative gathering timed to coincide with the World Economic Forum, which meets this week in Switzerland.

Organizers say lingering fallout from the global meltdown proves the planet's economic model is broken and must be changed so corporate interests don't regain control.

Co-founder Francisco Whitaker says a political and economic decline by the United States is the clearest sign the world needs a new economic way.

Organizers hope to attract 15,000 people and plan a march Monday to launch the event.
