Obama's "Read My Lips" Moment
Edited on Tue Jan-26-10 12:41 PM by lame54
Forget the fact that the spending freeze is a bad idea.
A terrible idea.
A horrendously atrocious idea.

It is just not feasible.

Somewhere down the line spending will take place.

Then Obama will have to spend his time explaining and defending his position.

It will come up constantly in any debate he has.

The media will be all over him for breaking a promise.

It doesn't matter if it turns out to be the right thing to do at the time.

He will be crucified.

This is a very dumb promise to make

2. Wasn't there a consensus that we had to spend our way out of
this recession? Spend it out on Main Street not Wall Street? Am I mistaken? I really thought I heard people saying that. Maybe one of the people was Krugman? It sounded like the right idea to me, sort of like what FDR did.

12. Barack Obama: we must spend our way out of recession
I googled and found this from Jan 2009:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article5478754.ece

One year later with Main Street having seen no relief and now he wants to stop spending? He is no FDR thats for sure.

4. Perhaps. Somehow this feels worse....?
But then again, we recall that Bush broke his promise so that he could get money to go to war. It's all bad. Really bad.

7. If you don't know the difference between crucifixion and criticism you're in bad shape, jaxx.

10. There is constructive criticism and there is bitching.
I meant what I said. He's being crucified on here. There is nothing constructive about second guessing everything.

9. I thought the same thing when I first read about it
I think the article I read said the freeze "excludes defense and emergency spending". I immediately thought "we're going to be seeing a lot of emergencies", and each one is going to get lots of criticism. And each time Obama will either be accused of lying about the emergency to justify spending or lying about freezing spending and probably both.
