Group of 11 apes at British zoo make film with specially designed 'chimpcam'

The group of 11 apes at a British zoo made the film with a specially designed "chimpcam" - and the results will be shown on the BBC on Wednesday night.

The camera allowed the chimps to see live images of what they were shooting, which appears from a preview of "Chimpcam" to be pretty much the sky, the ground and the occasional other chimp.

Some of the chimps also get close up and lick the camera.

It's unclear whether the animals knew they were making a film, but primatologist Betsy Herrelko said it was interesting to see what the apes focused on.

The chimps were also given another camera that showed live shots of several parts of the zoo, including their living area and the room where the zoo staff prepares their food.

The chimps were taught how to press a button to select which image they wanted to watch.

Although, I doubt the light-levels in their parent's basement would allow for good video, anyhow.

Curious as to how long it would be before it was defaced.

It knows that what the American TV camera typically records is similar to the other substance that chimps like to throw.

Amazing that chimps in Edinburgh could come to so understand American TV. ;-)
