After nearly four years, the Justice Department has ended its investigation of Rep. Alan Mollohan' (D-WV) without filing criminal charges, Mollohan's office announced today.

The investigation was thought to center on problems with Mollohan's financial disclosures, and non-profits he helped create which also benefited from his prodigious earmarking.

Feds end probe of W.Va. congressman; no charges

Federal prosecutors said Tuesday they have closed a nearly four-year investigation of U.S. Rep. Alan Mollohan, news welcomed by the West Virginia Democrat as Republicans jockey for a chance to challenge him in November.

Prosecutors never said exactly why they were looking into the 14-term congressman. The investigation appeared to focus on his financial disclosures and his role securing funds for nonprofit groups he helped create.

Mollohan maintained he had done nothing wrong and said investigators never contacted him. He said Tuesday he had earlier amended his annual financial reports to correct 20 mistakes that he called "unintentional and immaterial."

When my daughter was in 1st grade I think, she was in classes with Mollohan's daughter. (They 'lived'in DC.) My daughter is now a college junior, at West Virginia University!
