Reminding DU about YOUR great efforts. Moyers' focused on K-Rs Landay and Strobel
Edited on Thu Apr-26-07 09:14 AM by blm
Many DUers kept sending Jonathan Landay and Warren Strobel's articles out to every media outlet we could.

They ignored us - and we know now they did so DELIBERATELY.

But, when Jonathan Landay reported the Downing Street Memos, we picked up that charge yet again, and pushed the story every day for WEEKS until the mainstream media mouths had no choice but to say SOMETHING about it.

I hope that all the DUers who watched Moyers' show last night realized that YOU, TOO were part of this story.

Landay KNOWS that the people of DU have been behind their work, keeping the truth alive as best we could. He thanked us for catapulting the truth at the time and read our threads.

If SEARCH was working, I'd retrieve the threads where we all helped him on the Downing Street Memos.

They KNOW we are here - they're aware that we will be here when they need us.

Take a bow, DU. You all sided with the truth and helped to defend the messengers of that truth.

Unsung heroes - but, still heroes.

1. I love this place.
:grouphug:

We do make a difference - not always on this scale but in all our lives. Information posted here is spread many times elsewhere throughout the day to others not as internet savvy or who have the time to spend here.

Love it here. Thanks Skinner et alia for all the work you do to keep this place cooking day to day!

7. Moyers was amazing last night
yet it was bitter sweet.

All he was doing was reporting the TRUTH.

That is the least that we should expect from a real reporter/journalist.

This morning, that Neo Con SCUM( too early to remember his name) was on CSPAN.
He put Moyers down and brought up some talking point about Bill Riley of all people.

Then he went walking down memory lane for about 20 years to talk about something Moyers did in the Johnson ? administration.

After that he said that he was more than willing to debate him one on one but he would not appear on PBS with him.

They are such scum and so pompous.
The Hague for them all.

Those are real investigative reporters.

edited to add: I wasn't going to say anything but they were also easy on the eyes (since blm was the first to mention it). :)

11. And don't I know it! DU has been a source of sanity for me
and others. I knew all that Moyers was presenting, and I remember well the Knight Ridder articles that were posted here on DU. It's as if there are two separate realities with the M$M and the real truth. I applaud Moyers and Landay and Strobel and DU!

16. Landay's DSM report was being dismissed on Cspan as 'internet myth' and DU
let them have it. A call was put into Landay to share with him how his report was being treated and Landay called Brian Lamb personally.

That was DU at work - and then we stayed on all the media outlets that were trying to let the story slip through the cracks, emailing and faxing links for days on end. FINALLY, they begrudgingly had to talk about it, though they still managed to spin it as a nonstory. But we made them squirm and last night showed HOW RIGHT WE WERE to do so.

Also key, was that we got both houses of Congress to get DSM into the record - as Conyers and Kerry drafted letters of inquiry for DSM.

The DC Bureau of K-R (now McClatchy) knows what we did and how we helped.

36. I just happened to be watching CSpan when it was stated as fact, and called Landay right away
and put up a DU thread - DUers burned the phones, the faxes and the emails and would not let go until some of those mainstream media yakkers HAD to speak to it.

22. I wasn't around here
back before the war, so many long years ago, and was unaware of the Knight-Ridder reporters. I do remember hearing dissenting voices regarding the pre-war intelligence, and arguing heatedly with a co-worker about the links between Saddam and Al Qaeda, the weapons of mass destruction, etc.

Watching Bill Moyer's excellent documentary has re-opened my eyes to the nature of journalism. Too many Americans believe journalism is putting a couple people with differing agendas on the teevee and having them yell at each other, or a gang of bobbleheads yukking it up on Sunday morning.

Did you see Walter Pincus' office? HUGE stacks of paper covering almost every horizontal surface. Landay and Strobel were amazing to me. They just looked like ordinary guys in a messy office, but when they started talking about their craft, you could tell how dedicated they are to REAL journalism. And they appeared dumbfounded that other "journalists" were unable to dig up the stories they did. How'd they do it? Asking questions, the basis of journalism!

Now I have the urge to go back and read what I missed before the war...

27. Yes, indeed. They read, research archives of government agencies, call people,
discuss with others, then read more. Before they write. That's journalism. The shit we see in MSM is the "reality show" network version of journalism. Crapola.

34. Sorry I missed your post before. But, you make an observation that certainly rings true
to those of us here at DU who really have monitored the media closely for many years.

This type of pro-fascist 'journalism' we are stuck with in this nation was becoming apparent back in 1994 for me, and the reason I started attending FAIR meetings.

29. You said it!
Moyers did his usual fine job as we've come to expect, and this time for certain he revealed the corporate media to be clueless by their own design and choice!

I tell ya's, I felt so gratified at the end of that program, I literally heaved a sort of sigh, with a smile to boot.

My brother never misses Moyers, is always asking me if I've seen this or that show he's done. He even records his programs when he's at work!

My brother is too cool. :)

And so are DUers! Always on top of the things that really matter, and always vigorous in the pursuit of truth in the media, any media, everywhere. I'm very proud of my compadres here, too, and I'm so glad I stumbled upon this place a couple of years ago. Was doing a search for some info and a DU thread came up -- and I've been here ever since!

Felt a tiny bit of panic when the servers went down last night too ... now THAT must mean something deep in my psyche.

To me the most interesting part in one sense of the entire Moyers program last night was the list he gave near the end, of the "news people" who either refused to be interviewed or never even acknowledged his calls! Talk about revealing a lot about themselves.

Too bad there weren't about 40 million viewers for that show, but we'll take what we can get -- and DUers will do their usual follow-up and make sure the word gets spread yet farther.

Hey, that's what we are! We're magnifiers! We're spreaders of the truth! We amplify through alerts and repetition the truth that is reported by others!

I love it -- and I love DU. We have a lot to be proud of.

had your retention of what goes on here on this board. ;))))

I have alot of inside knowledge of some DC newsrooms that has never been posted - I can't or it can be traced - but, just know this..... the issues I am most centered on here at DU are the ones that have been censored the most WITHIN those newsrooms, and not by the diligent reporters.

One day I will describe what a Boston Globe reporter told me about his paper and why they censor BCCI mentions.

This stuff has been going on for a LONG TIME and it is all linked.
