McCain (Asshole-Az.) Says "Mistake" to Repeal Dont Ask, Dont Tell. THANK YOU President Obama
“In his State of the Union address, President Obama asked Congress to repeal the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy. I am immensely proud of, and thankful for, every American who wears the uniform of our country, especially at a time of war, and I believe it would be a mistake to repeal the policy.

“This successful policy has been in effect for over fifteen years, and it is well understood and predominantly supported by our military at all levels. We have the best trained, best equipped, and most professional force in the history of our country, and the men and women in uniform are performing heroically in two wars. At a time when our Armed Forces are fighting and sacrificing on the battlefield, now is not the time to abandon the policy.”

I am delighted that President Obama called for working with the military and Congress to REPEAL DADT. Not change it, not modify it, but REPEAL it, and THIS YEAR. (That's a TIMELINE, Senator McCain, and PS, for one who selected Palin as a running mate, pardon me if I take your opinion with a grain of salt and a big guffaw.)

2. Scott Brown may yet turn out to be a gift to our party.
I believe his election changed tonight's speech and lit some fires.

3. Something had to give and if it was losing Teddy's seat
that makes this administration focus up, that's what it takes.

4. You're a mistake, McCain.
You're a dickhead, and that was proven in the last election. And every time you open your stupid mouth.

6. DADT did not prohibit gays from serving in the military
That ban had been in place long before DADT. All repealing DADT is going to do is once again allow military personnel to be questioned about their sexuality which is what DADT was supposed to stop although of course it did not.

7. US Marine Seriously Injured by Landmine In Iraq (Mar 2003)
US Marine Seriously Injured by Landmine In Iraq
USA, IRAQ
March 25, 2003
Yahoo.com News
A Marine staff sergeant from San Antonio was seriously injured after he stepped on a land mine in Iraq on Friday, March 21. Eric Alva lost his lower right leg, and parts of his upper body were hit by shrapnel, family members said. Alva is being treated at a hospital in Germany and is scheduled to return to San Antonio, possibly as early as March 27, said the family. Alva has been with the U.S. Marine Corps for 12 years and is a graduate of Southwest High School. http://www.banminesusa.org/news/943_marine.htm

Written Statement of Staff Sergeant Eric Alva
To the Subcommittee on Military Personnel
House Armed Services Committee
U.S. House of Representatives
Room 2118 Rayburn House Office Building
June 23, 2008
... My name is Eric Fidelis Alva. I was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps ... I grew up in a military family in Texas. My father served in Vietnam, my grandfather in World War II. I guess you could say that service was in my blood ... I inherited my middle name, Fidelis, from my father and grandfather. As you know, the Marine credo, Semper Fi, is short for Semper Fidelis ... I joined the Marines because I wanted a challenge ... I was patriotic, idealistic; I was also gay. For 13 years I served in the Marine Corps ... My military service came to an end on March 21, 2003. It was the first day of the ground war in Iraq; mine was one of the first battalions in. Three hours into the invasion, we had stopped to wait for orders. I went back to the Humvee to retrieve something – to this day I can’t remember what – and, as I crossed that dusty patch of desert for the third time that day, I triggered a landmine ... www.hrc.org/documents/Alva_testimony_final.pdf

8. Really?
I am immensely proud of, and thankful for, every American who wears the uniform of our country, especially at a time of war…

— Senator John McCain

Really, Senator McCain? You're proud of every American who serves? The gay ones, too? Then let them live their lives in the sunlight instead of the shadows!

9. Exactly
That part of it struck me as garbage, "I am immensely proud of, and thankful for, every American who wears the uniform of our country," . . . but STFU Queerbags! You have to live in secret!

I had thought that discrimination based on sexual orientation was illegal, shouldn't that cover discharging someone from the military? Is it that the courts refuse to stand up for the minority or what?

DADT wouldn't be an issue if people could serve freely, like in other countries. Isn't it nice to know we're barely a step ahead of theocratic countries?

10. if *ONLY* a repeal of DADT occurs, doesn't that revert back to a *worse* status quo?
where gays could *explicitly* be barred from service?
IOW, doesn't more legislative work need to be done besides a simple repeal??

11. Got news for ya, Palin-sucker -
Most of the guys I know who came back from Iraq in October and November and December COULD NOT CARE LESS. They just wanted bodies, needed support, and yeah, some of the young ones "joke" about gay/lesbian military members - part of the "kulchah" ingrained from Basic Training. But get 'em alone? They don't know, they don't care, and they want every warm troop they can get.

DADT was stupid at best, a stopgap. It should have been "WGAS" (Who Gives A Shit) from GET GO.

Love y'all!
