Bachmann, Blackburn say they're out of Tea Party Convention

Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) have announced that they will not attend the National Tea Party Convention next month.

Both prominent backers of the tea party movement and were to speak at the event, scheduled for early February in Nashville.

However, their offices released statements this week citing concerns about how funds raised by the convention might be used.

Many tea party activists across the country are boycotting the convention over its $550-per person ticket price and the $100,000 speaking fee being paid to Sarah Palin, the former Republican vice presidential nominee.

7. I think the pukes are getting worried the Baggers will mount a 3rd party
challenge in many races in the next few years, which will hurt them.

11. I heard Bachmann cancelled because of the shady background of the promoter.
I'm surprised -- seems like he would fit in perfectly with that gang.

13. And what concerns are those, ladies?
I see that the story says "many . . . activists" have concerns about the ticket price and the fee being paid to one of the speakers. Are those your concerns as well, Ms. Bachmann and Ms. Blackburn? Surely you've attended get-togethers with higher priced tickets and more generous honoraria paid to a speaker. So what exactly are your objections or concerns?

I'm guessing they'd like to fade away as quietly as possible. I wonder if their constituents will let that happen?

14. People are going to be pretty tea'd off about that
Too crazy even for Bachman, they can enjoy their newly minted status as the crackpot fringe of the warm-drink crowd.

16. It's a scam and they don't want it to come back to bite them
Palin on the other hand, doesn't give a care, as long as she's getting paid big.
