Square peg, round hole
Some things just don`t fit, like Rightwingers and hungry children desperate for more school lunch programs. Like Rush Limbaugh and people suffering from Parkinson`s disease. Like September 11th first responders and the government agency that gave a bogus post-attack air quality report. Just don`t fit. Like brilliant gay linguists and DADT. Like American weaponry with built-in bible verses and people at prayer at a Michigan mosque. Square pegs, round holes.

President Obama should wake up and smell the cesspool. He should realize that while he`s bending over backwards being Mr. Nice Guy, just about every single Republican in Washington is driving a dagger into his back, no holds barred. Truth doesn`t matter to these folks, nor does a crisis or a plea for comity. Even the horrific disaster in Haiti got met with a Fox "News" style blackout and a politician`s "stray animal" comment. The only way to deal with these folks is to treat them like you would a dangerous ex-spouse who would beat the crap out of you if given half the chance. If, in 2012, the voters want Republicans to take over, so be it. Until then, Obama should act like he won the election. Forget Joe Lieberman (who campaigned for McCain) or Mitch McConnell who campaigns for doing nothing. Obama may have his arm around them one day but by the next, they`re all in front of a teevee camera talking about how he`s making us less free.

Compromise is a useful tool but when both sides start with ten and we insist on giving them seven more just to be nice, it`s time to look at that 17 to 3 score and stop calling it progress. We`ve compromised enough. Time to tell "our friends across the aisle" to get on board or we`re leaving without them. Period.
