Does Anybody Realize That West Coast Is Part Of America?
I'm wondering whose bright idea it was to put the first Presidential Debate on at a time when it will be Impossible for many folks outside of the Eastern time zone, from watching it.

Even a 7 EST start time is pushing it for east coasters who might just be getting home from work.

Seems to me that at the very least, it should have started at 8 PM EST, which would still give them 1 1/2 hours for the debate and another 90 minutes for Tweety, et al to bluster about it.

I guess they'll be getting ready for the final round of questions by the time I get home after 5 PST.

2. They might realize it; they don't care
And haven't since at least 1980, when the major networks began calling the election for Reagan, three hours before the polls closed on the West Coast.

I've grown accustomed to it by now.

3. I feel your pain
I'm someone who's lived on both coasts fairly recently (as the name would apply.)

It always seems as if political events favor the East and entertainment events favor the West, don't it?

Figures. :eyes:

10. NOT EVEN ENTERTAINMENT is live on the West Coast
except the Oscars -- that's the ONLY show we get at the same time as everyone else. Fucking pisses me off to know that there's an event going on in my very city and I won't be able to see it until it's 3 HOURS OLD and I may have heard who won in various categories. ONLY exception are the Academy Awards ...

5. I'm very fond of the west coast
I started my Navy Career in San Diego and got married in Kern County. And being a central time zone resident I agree with you. I'll be your ally in the civil war.

6. When we on the right coast can see nascar racing again...
with a normal noon hour starting time instead of pandering to gain west coast viewers I'll worry about your tv schedules...just sayin"...

7. AMEN! I am SOOO angered by the way MSNBC especially treats West Coast
viewers. The only primetime program that people in the Pacific Time Zone can easily catch (if they work or don't have TiVo) is "Countdown" (which is admitted their best show). If you're interested in what garbage Tweety, Scabrous and *ucker are spewing, you've got to catch them during the afternoon or else wait for the "Hardball" repeat at ... MIDNIGHT. Whoever is in charge of MSNBC's West Coast schedule is a total IDIOT!

At least you get home by 5 -- I won't be home until 7 pm PT, which means all I'll get is maybe a bit of the post-debate regurgitation. Wonder if C-Span will be able to re-air this when EVERYONE IN ALL TIME ZONES can easily see it ...

8. Is Alaska on Pacific time?
And Hawaii, wonder when they'll see it.

I don't understand why they don't tape and re-play the debates at a decent time in each different time zone.

of course the first primaries are over on that side of the country, too. The folks in Iowa and New Hampshire should be able to watch.

I agree. I get very annoyed that too many forget that we are 3 hours later out here. Don't even get me started on the fools who have called my house at 5 in the morning.

16. So what else is new?
Edited on Thu Apr-26-07 04:05 PM by Retrograde
It's been like this for years: since 9 PM Eastern Time is 6 PM Pacific Time, anything on at a convenient time for most East Coasters hits the West Coast as people are starting to get home.

I'd like to see 4 debates, one in each of the major time zones, starting at what's a reasonable time for the location. Spread the wealth and the pain around. (We can have some in Alaska and Hawaii, too)

ETA: It gets worse in California. Since we're considered a "safe" state for the Democrats, we're treated like one big ATM. From the amount of attention we got from Kerry and Bush in 2004 you'd barely know there was an election going on. OTOH, whatever keeps Bush out of the state...

21. Agreed! So anybody know will it be re-run on CSPAN tonight?
I was also surprised by the 4:00 start (PST) - from where I stand in beautiful Washington state.

Wonder how the east coast would react if we started a debate at 7:00 p.m. (here on left side of America)?
