Everyone needs to ask Republicans *WHY* they think letting gays in the military will cause calamity
Edited on Tue Feb-02-10 05:56 PM by ck4829
American Opinion? Gallup poll showing that 69 percent of Americans believe homosexuals have the right to serve openly.

Unit cohesion? Canada, France, Germany and Israel allow gays and lesbians the opportunity to serve openly, and have not suffered in any way.

What is motivating their opposition to ending DADT?

Call a Republican up today and ask them why.

Do nothing but hit on other men in the shower. Remember the GOP have all their man on man sex secretly in bathrooms. I swear they always mention the shower situation.

9. Because clinging to bigotry and hatred
..and the need to feel superior is what they are all about. They loathe the fact that they don't get to kick the racial minorities around anymore so the last "acceptable" group they have to spew bigotry at is gay people. They are so insecure with themselves they need someone to feel superior to.

It's sickening. :grr:

10. I'm more apt to ask our elected Democrats that question. We have majorities in BOTH houses, and we
have the White House.

How is it then, legislation can't be passed REGARDLESS of what the repugs want? I'll tell you why, IMHO. It's because the our Democratic representatives, OUR Congresscritters and Senators, are more concerned with getting their own asses re-elected than stepping up to the plate and risking their seats by doing what's right. Re-election is more important than the Human and Civil Rights of their fellow Americans.

Many of my friends here know I'm the father of a gay teenager. She's convinced that if the Democratic Party, of which she had planned to become a member, WANTED this legislation passed, they could pass it forthwith. She, as I, am becoming more and more angry at the notion that Equal Rights for Gays should be reduced to a talking point during a State of the Union Speech, given only one single sentence. President Obama devoted more words in his SOTU to making people laugh than he did making the point that Gays and Lesbians have as much to contribute to the security of the United States as any straight person. I was happy as a clam the night of the SOTU speech, and awaited the portion devoted to repealing DADT with glee. When it came and went, I was even happier, for a moment. Then I started to wonder why it wasn't given more than one sentence in a 70 minute speech. "This year, I will work with Congress and our military to finally repeal the law that denies gay Americans the right to serve the country they love because of who they are." That's it.

Fuck the republicans. We own the legislative process at the moment. The problem is that our party doesn't possess the willingness to use it in the context of GLBT Rights.

11. Remember in the 1990s women could not serve in a combat zone
and they hated Al Franken for joking about their stupid stance to their faces. Then Bush of course sent women into both Afghanistan and Iraq. Showing just how empty their ideas really are.

14. re: "Everyone needs to ask *WHY* they think letting gays in the military will cause calamity"

...particularly when gays & lesbians are already serving (and even giving the ULTIMATE sacrifice) as part of our armed forces! What? It's OK to defend and even die for your country... just don't tell anyone that you aren't heterosexual when you do so?
