:woohoo: :toast: :applause:

No offense to Al - I like him a lot and hope he becomes the next senator from Minnesota - but it will be GREAT to get Hartmann instead on AAR's XM Channel. No one tackles the issue at the root of so many of our problems - runaway corporatism - quite like Hartmann does.

12. He is running for the Senate it think
I would think it is difficult to keep a show and run for office. That's just my opinion tho. I would do the same if I was in his shoes.

5. He's also very good with callers.
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 07:55 PM by patrice
Places the issues and logical debate ahead of personal reactions and insults.

On edit: NOT that that is what Franken was about. It's just that Hartman makes it more about persuasion than about himself.

along with the news that the brother of Mark Green, the former NY mayoral candidate, was planning to buy Air America.

7. I like Hartman but I really loved Franken's use of Tom Oliphant, Norman Ornstein, and others
in his program. It was a great train of notables in various agencies and occupations. He spanned a lot of people who had good information about what was going on politically.

I will miss him a LOT. God speed Al Franken!

11. Not to mention Conason!
No more Joe! I really miss him, and hope that AAR finds an outlet for him somewhere. I'll also miss Franken. He was funny, and his theme songs for his regular guests were great.

I am sorry and embarassed for Al. I absolutelyloved the weekly visit with Tom Oliphant, as well as for the others who contributed. I got so MUCH information from his show.

24. I wouldn't feel too sorry for him, I think this may have been his choice
He has been talking about leaving the show so he could run for Senate for a while now, I think he may have just decided that now is the time to go.

It's just that I am sad about his leaving. I will brighten up considerably when he becomes the next Senator from Minnesota.

I think he knows his stuff, radiowise, in a way that Franken (D-MN) never quite "got".

So thanks for the post with the news. I'm going to enjoy Thom. It's going to be like being in class with a great teacher. This is nice and best of luck to Al in his quest for the Senate seat.

13. I love Thom Hartmann!
I hope that Mr. Franken will unseat Normie Coleman, and I enjoyed the regulars that he had on his show more than I enjoyed listening to Al.

Another run Al, run!!!

22. I like Thom Hartmann
and I like Franken, but I hope the DFL can come up with someone other that Al for our candidate. I'm not so sure how Al will do out of the metro area. Personally, I'd like to see Ford Bell make another run. He tried against Klobuchar but was frozen out by the DSCC. What I like about Bell is that he left no doubt about where he stood on issues - no waffling on getting out of Iraq and saying it's time for single payer health care (not "univeral") as a couple examples. While not as outgoing as Wellstone, his positions were more like Paul's on many issues.

27. I shall defer to you as you know much better than I what is
happening in your state! I didn't realize there was anyone other than Al Franken considering a run for the senate seat. If your preferred candidate decides to run, please feel free to PM me to let me know.

I have to warn you in advance - if there are 2 democrats running in any given primary race who aren't in my state I will donate smaller (the same) amount(s) of money to each candidate because I don't think that small amounts given to each candidate effects the final outcome of a race that isn't in my state.

It's my policy because I've come to resent out of state money being a factor in my state primaries. I loved Paul Wellstone and I hope that the candidate you prefer comes out the winner in the primary and the general! I've read your posts and I will try to help you out when the time comes. :hi:

31. As of now, no one is officially running for Coleman's seat
There are people who are being speculated about but I haven't heard that any of them (other than Franken) have openly said anything about running. Our caucuses aren't until March 2008 so I really wouldn't expect much to go on with this race until next fall - unless Franken jumps in, then we might see more candidates announcing before they may have planned to. Coleman is seen as being vulnerable so I'd be surprised if we didn't have a wealth of candidates to choose from.

32. Will you please remember to try to keep me informed about
who is and isn't running for this senate seat?

I hope that you do have a wealth of candidates to decide between and that whoever wins the primary will go on to defeat Coleman!

15. Franken did a fine job helping the network to get started
and I am grateful to him for it. It was pretty clear he was ready to move onto another gig though. I hope he unseats Coleman - he'll make a great senator. They could use some yuks in the Senate anyway.

19. I like Al- he's got passion
He makes people laugh but he also is a very emotional man who is not afraid to show some feeling. He's been on the edge of tears a few times talking about our troops in Iraq, and he's gone there every year. He really cares. The Senate needs to laugh a little and cry a lot over what they've allowed to happen to this country.

And I love Hartman and will look forward to him taking over the slot. Its a win/win.

Our local (Boulder) AAR station used to play Thom during Randi's live show, I assume that'll change and Randi will be back live. Yeehaw! Saves me about $12 a month. :)
