Veto Debt Ceiling Bill

President Obama should veto this year's debt ceiling bill. The only way to get rid of wasteful spending is to stop raising the debt ceiling. By not raising the debt ceiling members of Congress would be forced to try to cut wasteful spending.

When I mention wasteful spending I am not talking about Social Security, Medicare, and similar programs. I think government should try to reduce waste and fraud in these programs, but it should not cut benefits. For me wasteful spending refers to programs that spend millions of dollars to build heated bus stops. Each year bill are filled with billions of dollars of wasteful spending. It seems that if the debt ceiling was not increased members of Congress would have to begin to think about how to reduce the debt of the country.

Do you ahve the faintest clue what the immediate consequence of that would be? Treasury expects to hit the current debt ceiling in, like, A MONTH.

What the hell do you think happens if the government has to stop accumulating any additional debt... IN ONE MONTH???? In the middle of the worst recession since the 1930s?

The government's fiscal year ends in September.

If the debt ceiling isn't raised, the whole government is unfunded and essentially shuts down for 6 months.
