Best of luck to you, Jenny, and good riddance to that fatuous, lying bum who used to be your husband.

1. you admire a woman who married a man who TOLD her, BEFORE they were married, that he had no
intention of being faithful? who didn't kick his ass out when he asked her permission to keep seeing his mistress because "it was the first time (he) had ever done anything for himself? who is seeking trademark protection for her name?

sorry, but I think she is a piece of work herself.

She is smart and self-assured, she should have been governor herself.

4. I don't need to see an interview--I read enough to know she is a twit with money who CHOSE
to marry a man who TOLD her he had no intentions of being faithful. who is TRADEMARKING her name, for pity's sake. this is not a woman I see any reason to admire.

to form an opinion that is clearly quite different from yours.

11. I didn't say anyone had stopped me from commenting. I just asked if only comments that agreed with
you were acceptable. as for ill-informed? no, I read enough to know whereof I speak.

I find it interesting that her book and gayle haggard's came out at the same time.

interview, as though only they could have a valid opinion. and you pretty much answered that question.

now I will ask you one-- what do you think of "an incredibly savvy woman" who willingly marries a man who SAYS he has no plans to be faithful?

19. It's interesting that a Republican lowlife betrays his wife
And people at DU blame HER. I found her interview quite interesting, and gained a new respect for her. Perhaps if you ever decide to watch it, you may too. Although I see your point, it's much easier to form opinions based on minimal information. Why waste time learning more about a situation when your mind is already made up!?

20. From the interview, she said they were both quite young when they married.
And it seems she didn't think that much about it. She didn't seem to think that his revision of a wedding vow was a promise that he would cheat. In fact, she was shocked and surprised when she first learned that he had cheated, by discovering a letter to the Argentinian woman in his desk. Many women every day are shocked and surprised to find they've been betrayed, despite what an objective observer might consider an obvious clue. Hindsight is 20/20.

34. Many women are naive when they get married
For the record lots of marriage vows don't include lines about fidelity.
She did kick the bum out eventually and she has my respect for that.

And yes he is a selfish egotistical scum bag.

21. I actually watched the interview and
I really liked her. She is very kind, very open, was not seeking sympathy, has moved on, and did not take any cheap shots at her ex. She is the most mature jilted public figure I have ever seen. I actually found myself wishing that she was a Democrat.

As for her ex - one of the most emotionally immature and non-evolved jerks I have ever seen.

I am surprised, although I know I should be used to it by now, at some of the comments in this thread.

22. Thank you
She might yet become a Democrat. She's from Chicago, and then worked in New York. She gave up a lot for her marriage, who knows what that entailed.

And yes, the knee jerk comments in this thread are odd, but not all that surprising.

in the pics of when she was younger she looks more plain. yeah,it's not important but just something i noticed.

i still don't know how she was ok with him removing the part about being faithful from the wedding.

36. Handled it well.
I watched the interview. I think she handled the interview and the entire situation well. I don't think just being young is the reason she dismissed the removal of the "forsaking all others" wedding vow. There are many women who dismiss these things who are much older and some married many times. I think we all need to realize that we need to trust our gut on those issues and that people like that rarely change. Maybe some cultures don't have that vow, but we do, and if someone refuses to say it and that's important to you then you need to open your eyes to the fact that he's telling you he will not be faithful.

On a related note, I wish we could outlaw big weddings. After watching my friends go through their big weddings in our 20s (now in our 40s) and then divorcing, working for a short time in the china department of a department store, and just seeing how big the wedding industry is, I think that contributes a lot to these problems. I think some places (including SC or they used to) have a waiting period for divorce (must be separated one or two years before filing), but I'm thinking a longer waiting period for a wedding would work better. And, since I know we can't really do that then maybe we could start a new tradition where people have a very small wedding for their marriage, but then after maybe five years have a big party for their anniversary. Basically, I think we need to start celebrating anniversaries more. I can't remember who said it (a Supreme Court Justice, I think), but "a wedding is an event; a marriage is an achievement!"
