6. thats just what they want!
I LIKE smoking. I spent years finding a brand I liked. I only smoke a bout a half a pack a day, but I enjoy every one. Or at least I used to. but swollen throat, excessive coughing and the taste of rat shit. If people want to quit because its bad for them, fine. If people get cancer, or TB, I understand. If you want to jump on the social bandwagon and quit because if is fashionable, ok. If you support legislation for higher sin taxes, or to ban smoking from public places (like parks and sidewalks) you have your right. But I cannot and will not take being forced to walk away because of some government imposed chemical, its not fucking right!

Seriously? You think people quit smoking because it's a fad? Or is my sarc meter not running properly at this late hour?

11. I quit back before it was the cool thing to do
Back when it just made you live longer, smell better, save money, and not annoy everyone around you.

18. Are you impaired right now?
You just wrote this rant about government imposed chemicals...but do you even know what makes a FSC? Why don't you learn about it (and the fact it has nothing to do with any chemical additive) before imposing another rant on us.

Rants can be a good thing, but not if the poster is too fucking lazy to learn the facts first.

24. It's not a special chemical.
Just bands of thicker paper that burn cooler.

You'll live.

3. My advice would be...
Learn to roll your own. While no smoking is healthy, I can promise you that rolling your own smokes is going to be better than buying the primordial soup that passes for the industry's product.

8. Fire Safety Coting
Edited on Sat Feb-06-10 03:28 AM by fNord
or something like that.

its a chemical the spray on the paper of all cigarettes in America so they will "go out" when not attended and maybe prevent a fire from the one dumb son of a bitch a year that falls asleep with one lit and burns down all of Chicago. they could simply remove the rings of gunpowder the cigarette companies put on there smokes to keep them burning, but no, they just add more chemicals. Now I may soon have to give up one of my favorite vices because of toxins. Not from Big Tobacco, but form my government

9. Even though I'm a life-long non-smoker, I sympathize. Many members of my family smoked while I was
growing up, and while it was never for me neither did the "second hand smoke" ever bother me much. It was just part of the background.

I'm more "live and let live" about it as a result, but I know many folks aren't - Left, Right, & Center.

12. Quit
Edited on Sat Feb-06-10 06:18 AM by garethc2009
Just quit. It's too much hassle to begin with. I used to smoke, then I had kids are realised that my behavior was frankly disgusting. I was endangering my life at a precious time, and when it was vital that I stuck around. Also, I aimed to set a good example, and this just didn't fit into that. You're free to continue smoking of course, just as I'm free to tell you what I think about it.

14. A cigarette is a nicotine delivery device and what smokers "love" is a hit from that drug.
I love chocolate but I'm sure not going to spend $30-$50 dollars a week on chocolate and then when at work have to go and eat it outside. In the freezing cold of winter here in Wisconsin there is nothing more pathetic than seeing a bunch of smokers congregated outside their work, huddled together in the cold, all "loving" their cigarettes.

Why not skip the pseudo nicotine delivery device and go straight to the real thing: an electronic cigarette. That way you can get your hit of nicotine in various levels while avoiding all the carcinogenic crap of tobacco and still go through all of the motions as smoking, including drawing the vapor deep into your lungs and exhaling what sure looks like smoke. You can even get e-cigarettes that have the flavor of tobacco if you love that and since there is no fire, nothing will burn. Also, since you are not "smoking" you can use them in places that ban smoking. All of that for a cost of about 1/3 the equivalent cost of a pack of cigarettes.

Using a garden hose practice sucking a golf ball through that mother. When you get that down pat the cigs should be no problem.

20. I buy pouches of American Spirit Organic Tobacco for about 8 bucks for 50 cigarettes.
Used to smoke Winston as they claimed to be "additive free". American Spirit pre-rolled are additive free but the FSC are not. Here's a list of additives in "commercial" cigarettes-

Here's a demonstration video of how NOT to smoke FSC cigarettes-

DISCLAMER: SMOKING IS DANGEROUS AND STUPID. But if you must smoke, know this- by law ALL pre-rolled cigarettes must be FSC rated. In order to make them compliant (self extinguishing), the companies have laced the paper with fire retardant vinyl. That is why they'll go out if you set them down. So, if you do not want to smoke fire retardant vinyl along with the 27 other chemicals they put in cigarettes to KEEP THEM BURNING(?)- do what I'm doing here- roll your own American Spirit Additive-free Organically grown Tobacco with filter tips. Yes it's a stupid and dangerous habit but if you're gonna do it you might as well take the "healthier" route.

offerings on my alter they used to burn all the way down, a good sign. Now they just stop after a minute or two. I have to buy them from the web now, and soon that will stop if they get the legislation in place.

27. I agree & switched to ecigs - let the cocktail drinkers pay the taxes
The big hype originally was that smoking was bad for the smokers' health. Then it was so-called second-hand smoke killing everyone. Then it was the "smell" of tobacco. Now the straw-man is nicotine addiction, as if that were worse than caffeine or sugar or whatever. And as a public service, they put mothball & carpet glue chemicals in the paper which is surely great for everyone & the planet. Either roll your own or switch to ecigs.

The ecigs deliver nicotine if you want, are a tremendous help to my "mental addiction" so I won't go back to cigs, no second-hand smoke and they work. I can't say enough great about them.

And the nico-Nazis can kiss my ass for their ridiculous taxes. Let the adulterers, marijuana smokers, gamblers - whoever - pick up the slack; although I frankly think it will be the obese they go after next.

Try ecigs. I have no connection with selling, distribution or anything - I'm just glad I found them.

30. If you made your own, you wouldn't have to worry about that. It's also
a great deal cheaper to make your own. I use an injection system that injects tobacco into a filtered tube. With the machine I have, I can make a pack of cigarettes in about 4 minutes.
