Will Teabagism Sweep The Nation?
That's the question of the day. Several hundred teabaggers are extolling the virtues of Teabagism in Nashville this weekend, and listening to speeches about Teabagism in between seeing the sights of Nashville and, perhaps, taking in some music.

But, can Teabagism capture the hearts of Joe Scotchbottle or Jane Merlot? That's the real question facing these teabagging conventioneers. I don't think so. However, there is an excellent opportunity for Teabagism spokesmorons to get into the standup comedy business.

1. Liberals hold million-man march....
and it's dismissed by claims that "only" a few hundred thousand attended.

600 teabaggers == Populist Future Of Politics. Or something.

2. I have a question for your question.
If this were a liberal group, gay group or minority group who was loudly calling for the overthrow of the government through violence if necessary, would any of these groups be in the position to have a convention? or Would these groups have been attacked and infiltrated by the FBI and attacked in their homes?

6. I'm watching this on C-SPAN
The speaker is addressing a near empty room, full of middle-aged bored to death listeners.
Is anyone else watching this? It's pathetic. Without their hate, they have no energy at all.

24. BINGO!
Visualize a couple of hijacked bus loads of old farts sitting quietly in the back of the hall waiting for the crappy 'time-share' speeches to end before the complementary casino tokens are handed out.

13. Very little coverage by local news stations
Top stories today on News Channel 5 are:

Spring Hill police officer injured while working

Was sex offender exempt from work release law

Mice invade homes durring cold weather

Earlier not sure which station had camers at the Hotel...very few people inside...parking lots were almost empty....They did show the media center yesterday....A huge room with one person setting at a table talking on a phone...

17. McCarthyism swept the nation, so to speak.
And de-liberalized our government, our entertainment industry, our educational system and ruined the lives and careers of many good people. McCarthyism is, at least partially responsible for Vietnam (had to stop the commies) and the support of repressive dictatorships around the world. It left a toxic stain on our society that persists even today.

The Teabag phenomenon depends on the same 30%, or so, of our society that is ignorant, desperate, confused and susceptible to demagoguery by those who would enslave them.

20. Liberals doubled their share of the electorate from 1999-2005
The demographic (of 9 political demographics) known as 'liberals' went from about 9% of the electorate to 19% in the first term of Bush's presidency.

On the other hand, most teabaggers are elderly white males. Most will be dead in 15 years.

Plus people under 30 voted Obama and the democrats 2-1. A poll showed young people split 3 ways between which system was best. Socialism, capitalism or not sure.

So no. The teabaggers are terrified old men threatened by the outside world who don't have much time left. They will be replaced.

There might be some anti-democratic voting in 2010 (due to anger at how ineffective the dems are at standing up to corporate hegemony). But over the next 10 years I think progressivism will keep picking up.
