Anyone else catch the Repub lady on CSPAN Washington Journal this morning about .54 cent wages?
I about fell off my chair when a woman from Dallas TX called in on the Republican line to an author Kathleen Christensen, Co-editor, “Workplace Flexibility and said this (paraphrasing):

Go to the 37 minute mark on the video:

http://www.c-span.org/Watch/Media/2010/02/06/WJE/A/29360/Kathleen+Christensen+Coeditor+Workplace+Flexibility.aspx

"As a stock holder in companies and my Uncle who owns a business and can't keep paying in Social Security because it cost too much, when are you going to go back to giving men $.54 cents an hour and women $.27 cents an hour and have them all sit on their porches and be happy about it like they used too? Newt Gingrich said he was going to do that are he could rule the world with "morals, values, and religion". So why don't you do that?"

..........

You have to give her credit for being honest! This is exactly what most people with money would like to see the middle class be put back to!

:silly:

2. All I can say is...
"You first." There is nothing stopping this woman from living on 27 cents a day, sitting on her porch and being happy as a clam.

When she's lived that way for a couple of years she can come back and tell us all how much fun it is.

ETA: Dallas, TX, huh? I'm surprised she didn't throw all the way back to slavery when they didn't get paid anything and sat on the porches happy, singing a song of the South.

I live here in Dallas, and there are places where it is in the 21st century, and then we have idiots like this. Jesus.

7. Exactly - Close to that now. A lot of writers wonder why that hasn't happened yet!

5. I heard it
but thought maybe I was still dreaming as I had only been out of bed a few minutes. Some of the repukes that call that show are batshit crazy and totally disconnected from the real world.

6. I did the same thing - I just sat there with my mouth open thinking if I had really heard her!
It was just so damn over the top but then I realized she had actually believed in what she said for God's sake. Scary that there are people out there with these thoughts. As the person before said she would probably love to have the "worker slaves" on their porches singing songs while she and her Uncle lived in their plantation mansions!

9. A lot of conservatives feel this way.
Even the middle class ones. Not for their wages, you understand. Just for everyone else.

10. Not just US Conservatives
If you ever read the Economist, which has a Tory bent, you would find many of its writers think US workers wages are too high.

11. This is why they hate unions. Once they have completely rid our country of them they can return to
those happier times when we ate dirt and kept our mouths shut. And any Democrat who participates in further breaking the power of the unions is just as culpable even if it IS in ignorance of what the ultimate goal is.
