3. It's even better than that. She's the slightly out of control white girl stereotype
that authoritarian Republicans have always wanted to dominate. She hits all those notes just right.

Our politics are in the toilet.

15. that is just absurd
All of the following are white and none of them have had anything like her exposure in the aftermath of running for and losing President, much less VP. Carter, Gore, Kucinich, Mondale, Bush 1, Dole, Perot, and I could go on and on.

20. that isn't what you said
If you are simply going to move the goal posts then frankly it is worthless having a discussion with you. The issue in the OP, the post you responded to, was why Palin gets paid attention to despite having lost a race for VP, and being a failed gov and mayor. You said it was due to her being white. That is nothing short of absurd as I showed in my post which listed whites who ran for and lost the Presidency who haven't gotten any attention whatsoever. Incidently, I think any male candidate for either VP or President who had her record in college would have been raked over the coals and never heard from again unless the ticket happened to win. Think Quayle, who was probably smarter than either her or Bush but was, thanks to his VP stint, a national synomym for idiot and literally went nowhere in 2000 when he ran for President.

I'll eat canned spinach.

lol

This is a total right wing nutcase media confection. ETA: CSPAN panned the audience several times. If you have the stomach, you'll notice a lot of frowning women. You can't get that close to a fake without registering it at some level, imo.

She fires up the base. They don't care what she's saying. I believe it's the cadence in her voice and maybe her legs.

14. Clearly, all she feels she has to offer is sex appeal…
look at her body language. That works for the sexually repressed teabaggers. By the way, what is that image behind her -- hell fire?

18. The masses like her, listen to her, and support her, that's why.
Edited on Sun Feb-07-10 12:02 AM by krispos42
The fact that she gets by on personality, bullshit, and cunning rather than intellect, planning, and knowledge... that she's intellectually empty and proud of this, that she's devoid of follow-through for her accomplishments and has seen electoral achievement as the end, not the means to a greater good... that her family is the living embodiment of the failure of Bible-based marital, sexual, and familial relationship management... that she is a chronic bald-faced liar about everything, including things that are minor and/or e easily-refuted with a quick Google or YouTube search...

None of that matters to her followers. And because she has followers, she is automatically relevent regardless of qualification, simply because of those numbers (and thus money and votes).

22. Our exhaulted media keep pushing her. she gets so much
coverage from the 24/7 crowd and the chattering classes if one is not paying attention one will feel as though she had something to offer. I pretend I don't understand why even guys I tend to agree with like Keith Olberman give her so much coverage.

His bitching about her is galling, he if he and his producers have such a low opinion of her the best thing they could do is to completely ignore her. Have a "special comment" or two about her then move on to more important subjects. But the fact that she gets so much time on the cable and news shows tells me the money behind the media want her there.

24. Don't forget that she has religion in common with her followers -- she is a religious figure first
Edited on Sun Feb-07-10 01:35 AM by Miss_Underestimated
to them, who is combining church with politics. That is a potent combination. If the Democrats want to correct this problem, they will have to penetrate the Catholic Church and Mormon Church and other religious organizations with their talking points.

And when people are led by religion, they let go of science and logic. Rent Bill Maher's "Religulous" documentary to see that sort of behavior in action.
