Cherry Hill Seminary - Distance Education for Professional Pagan Ministry (It's office is in SC????)
Where: Our business office is located in COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA. The Seminary is all online. Our community is all the world.

Why: Neo-Paganism is one of the fastest-growing religions in the world. There are many resources available for training in specific Pagan traditions, and many are now ready to begin serving outside their local groups. For this we need a professional, competent, educated and recognizable group of scholars, leaders, teachers, chaplains and clergy who have been educated at the graduate level – in a Pagan learning environment, by Pagans, and for Pagans.

Cherry Hill Seminary recently celebrated our tenth anniversary as a learning community. At a special retreat in March 2008, our Board of Directors voted to move forward in active pursuit of two important goals.

The first was to obtain state licensure to award Master of Divinity degrees (M.Div.). Such licensing by the state ensures that a school has met at least minimum requirements for the degree being offered, and allows for the professional oversight of a state higher education commission.

Most states exempt religious or theological training from licensing. The State of South Carolina Commission on Higher Education has granted this exemption to Cherry Hill Seminary.

However, although as an institution whose sole purpose is religious or theological training that originates in the STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, Cherry Hill Seminary is exempt from oversight of the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, our goal is voluntarily to meet the same standards for licensure which would be required of a non-religious school.

Toying With God: The World of Religious Games and Dolls. This book examines the relationships among religion and commerce, play, politics, ritual, fun, and other aspects of contemporary culture.

Does DeMint know about this? I am agog that they are anywhere near here. I may have to visit the business office.
I just wandered around the site. Who knew?

1. I lived there several years ago. SC actually has a large Pagan Community.
Also Gavin and Yvonne Frost has or had a school that taught witchcraft in Durham NC. I spoke to many covens while I was there. Usually as a guest speaker to explain the differences between Magic and Witchcraft.
