Oh God, I just saw the first "Focus on the Family-Tim Tebow" commercial...
"Everyone treats him different, but to me he's still my baby boy"

Cute commercial, no message, just a Mom talking about her son.
She looks like an older version of Fran Drescher.

These people are sneaky.
Let's see what the one during the game looks like.

1. What the hell is that supposed to mean?
People treat him differently because he wears his religion on his sleeve? Who in the world would know that she supposedly had to make a choice about his birth? How would anyone have known that to judge him.

This is the religious right shoving their religion down the countries throats. Don't be fooled!

They are soooooooooo persecuted.:sarcasm: ...this is what this message is about.

5. People treat him differently because evangelism is an affront to free will
Edited on Sun Feb-07-10 02:29 PM by SpiralHawk
It is an implicit and explicit attack on the intelligence and free will of other people, usually with psychologically manipulative BS.

If religious evangelicals -- of any persuasion -- actually had real faith in what they say their believe, they would have no need to try and convince other people that they are right. They would let the examples of their own lives tell the story.

7. Nonsense! Evangelism is not an affront to free will, any more than is advertising.
All evangelists, or advertisers, are trying to do is induce you, using your free will to accept or reject their claims, to accept them and believe what they say.

It would only be an affront to free will if said evangelists kidnapped you, locked you in a room and said "Convert to our religion or we will kill you."

You don't have to pay any more attention to their message than to the other ads. I don't think CBS should've cleared this ad when it wouldn't clear other political ones, but it's not like its airing is robbing anyone of their "free will." That's just laughable.

9. Not nonsense, but plain old-fashioned common sense
When evangelicals say or imply that you are going to roast for eternity in the firey pit of whatever Hell they imagine, they are using FEAR to manipulate you. That is but one example of hundreds of manipulative ways that evangelicals seek to subvert free will.

If they had true faith and honor, they would simply live their lives according to the dictates of whatever their religion might be, and trust that they need not SELL it with FEAR or any other soul-assaulting techniques....

10. Oh, I agree, but the fact of it is, they want you to convert to their beliefs of your own free will.
Edited on Sun Feb-07-10 05:22 PM by Berry Cool
In fact, they believe it would not "save" you if you came to those beliefs any other way. I mean, what if I told you you either had to believe in the FSM or I would kill you? If you said you believed, what good would that be? You'd only believe because I threatened you with murder.

True, evangelists will tell you you are going to hell if you don't believe as they do, and they want you to believe that, but they want you to believe it of your own free will. Yes, they are using fear in an attempt to manipulate you, but they're not forcing you to do anything.

Edited to add: Your idea of "common sense" is nonsense if you can't tell the difference between religious people trying to proselytize you and someone truly trying to rob you of your free will.

13. Gross evangelical VIOLATIONS of free will
No matter what you 'think' Berry Cool, and no matter what you claim about my position being nonsense, this Evangelical assault is in fact a gross violation of free will. Your 'claims' to the contrary are just not believable by free men and women with the capacity for critical thinking.

The Latest Evangelical Violations:
"American evangelical churches are embracing a new orphan theology that urges Christians to see adoption and “orphan-care” as an integral part of their faith..."

8. My fault - I was ill prepared to post....
People treat him differently because he's a national championship and Hiesman trophy winner, and soon to be a NFL player (maybe).
Anyone in that position is going to be treated like a star.
Religion had nothing to do with the commercial.

The organization that brought it to you does.

2. Does she say why people 'treat him different?'

Because he's a male?
Because he's a football player?
Because he's a Christian?

What's the deal

11. Many despise republican's corporate ideology & policies yet will still vote only for a republican
Edited on Sun Feb-07-10 05:57 PM by GreenTea
simply because the Republican platform is Anti-Choice ("Anti-Abortion") to some voters, the republicans can stick a knife right in their backs (and they do), republicans can & do take money & benefits right out of their pockets and even ship their jobs away.... yet many voters will still vote only republicans because of this one issue.

Republican leaders & their think tanks know this and exploit this extremely well.

The republicans use this tactic of hate & fear for other issues as well... gay marriage, minorities rights, gun control...etc. etc...

Many who vote republican vote on single issues.....republicans always keep in the publics mind as in today's Super bowl ad....Republicans make sure every chance they get to exploit these issues and keep public attention focused on them so at voting time republicans make it clear of their position & platform.

These single issue voters make up a large percentage of the republican party, without them the republicans would almost cease to exist.
