Homeless hero seriously hurt in stabbing
Homeless hero seriously hurt in stabbing

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A man in the Canadian city of Winnipeg known as a homeless hero is in a hospital's critical care unit after being stabbed by two assailants, an official says.

A Winnipeg Regional Health Authority spokeswoman said Faron Hall, who rescued people from a river on two separate occasions, has stabilized after initially being in critical condition following the stabbing, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said Sunday.

Authorities said a man and a woman stabbed Hall, 45, at an apartment Saturday after the three got into an argument.

Police said the male suspect is still being sought, while Geraldine Ruth Colomb, 31, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault.

Hall received the Medal of Valor from Winnipeg's mayor for saving Joseph Mousseau last May when the 19-year-old nearly drowned in the Red River.
