Just figured out who Palin patterned herself after. Flo, the Progressive chic, only not loveable.

Flo's character seems genuinely interested in customer service, though, not just selling a product. Sarah completely misses out on that whole "caring about other people" thing.

Sarah annoyed me the first time I heard her open her mouth. Flo remains cute for quite a few viewings of each commercial before I am compelled to press the "mute" button.

and mercifully, at the last moment, she stopped. I can only imagine the coach they found her. If you polish any of her hick edges, they will hate her.

I'm a HUGE "King of the Hill" fan and there are definitely some similarities between them. Yes, they look a bit like each other although Peggy is a lot more dowdy - this is a woman who shops at a womens clothing store called "Frumpy's" :)

The main thing they have in common is an overwhelming ego. Peggy can't do anything right, but thinks she's great at everything. She almost always has her failures flung in her face which usually leads to self-doubt if only till the next episode. Palin's a fuck-up but could care less about it as she's apparently been able to coast on her alleged good looks her whole life. Plus she's an obvious sociopath which Peggy is not.

Also, I'm pretty sure Progressive didn't start the Flo ads until after the 2008 election.

Because it's not just the "perky"...it's the "perky" with a hint of nastiness underneath.

The "Flo" on the Progressive commercials is just perky, period. I don't see where she's using perky to cover up any mean streaks.

She-who-must-not-be-named seems to use perky to disguise something rather icky.



I sort of liken it to the mean girls in school who looked at geekazoids like me with a smile that never quite reached the eyes, you know what I mean? Like they're pretending to be your friend all the while knowing that they'd probably lure you to a dark alley where their little gang of buddies would be waiting to beat the shit out of you.
