Roeder wants a new trial
WICHITA | Attorneys for Scott Roeder, the man convicted of murdering a prominent Kansas abortion provider, have asked for a new trial or an order of acquittal for their client.

Roeder's attorneys signaled their intent in a motion for a new trial made public Monday. Among other reasons, they cite a decision by the judge at Roeder's trial last month to not allow jurors to consider a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter.

Such court filings are routine, but important to preserve the record on appeal issues. Arguments on the motion will be heard in March.

Roeder was convicted of first-degree murder in the May attack on George Tiller. Roeder admitted he shot Tiller in the head during services at the doctor's Wichita church.

5. I think that's pretty much proforma for murder trials
Most murder trials, OTOH, do not feature the defendant admitting doing it right on the stand.

It's kinda like Tom Cruise interrogating Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men...

"Did you shoot the abortion doctor in the face?"
"YOU'RE DAMN STRAIGHT I DID!"

This is NOT conducive to acquittal.

7. No grounds for appeal. Confession was heard in court...

The KS Supreme Court should rule that Roeder can go rot in prison for the rest of his life, denying all certorari and closing his case, permanently.

This guy has zero rights as of right now. The judge's decision to deny him consideration for lesser charges (manslaughter) was the correct one because of the intent and the fact that Roeder confessed on open court. It'll be upheld and affirmed without any question whatsoever.

OR can go waste even more money on lawyers (which are getting rich off these morons) for all I care. Everyone knows that Roeder is dead to rights.
