Do you want to know why Sarah Palin will not use a teleprompter?
Edited on Tue Feb-09-10 01:29 AM by kentuck
Because she is illiterate. She cannot read. She is a slow student.

Who was the last person you can remember that wrote anything on the palm of their hand? Was it in high school? Or was it grade school? Maybe fifth grade? Not only that, but scratch it out and correct it in ink?

She's a true tea bagger. She can make those bells ring.

But she has her supporters. The reasons they support her are numerous but the number one reason is she is not Barack Obama.

I try not to talk politics at work, or at least keep it at an acceptable minimum. But one lady asks me, "what's going on in politics?"

I said, "Sarah Palin is going to be the next President".

Then a guy in another cube says, "I sure hope so. It seems like things are a lot worse now than when Obama took office?"

Another lady in a close-by cube says, "Yeah, it seems like things are a lot worse now."

So this is what we are dealing with...

There is no memory. They remember nothing from a year ago. They do not read the Internet. They do not read newspapers. They mostly hear stuff here and there. And Sarah talks their language - simple and unrefined.

Barack Obama made a huge mistake. He over-estimated the intelligence of a large proportion of the American people. They do not understand or comprehend that the President must be optimistic. They did not understand the gravity of the circumstances we faced just over a year ago. These people do not remember or understand anything about that time. Or they refuse to remember?

Barack Obama needed to be more direct with these folks. He should not have said or insinuated that unemployment might reach 8%. Instead, he should have told these folks, "People, we are in some deep shit. We will not get out in 1 year or 2 years. It may take 5 to 10 years to recover from this disastrous Republican presidency of George W Bush. These folks that ran these huge unregulated banks have put great stress upon the economies of the world. Do not for one minute think that we are not all in this together..."

1. She DOES use teleprompters
Saw her twice in person, and both times she had them.

Obama also uses them. ALL politicians use them.

12. You presume her speech was on them
("speech" in the loosest possible definition, of course)

I'll bet $5 what was actually on the screen were "SpongeBob Squarepants" reruns.

Remember, only SHE can see what's on the screen!

20. Lyda Green, former state Senate president (a Republican) ,
who was a guest on Shannyn Moore's radio show yesterday, said that Sarah often used teleprompters when she was governor addressing the legislature. This whole teleprompter thing is a serious red herring, and she's playing it for all it's worth. "Hi, Mom"?? Puh-leeze.

2. He HAS said that
He said it may not get turned around in 4 or even 8 years. Repeatedly.

But I won't argue with your other points. We are fucked.

3. Anybody who tried that stunt in Catholic school
ended up with scars. Those nuns were wise to everything. In addition, it looks like the idiot wrote in Sharpie, and that stuff is not coming off for a couple of weeks.

The only time I tried it, I wrote on the top of my thigh, far below my prim school jumper hemline. I didn't even have to look at it, just writing it down was enough to make it stick in my memory.

My mother was not amused. The nuns missed it but she didn't. She did believe me when I said I didn't even have to refer to it.

Good thing. If she hadn't, she'd have turned me in to those sadistic old bats.

6. I thought Jesus said to turn the other cheek!
Maybe you should have tried quoting Jesus to those perverted kiddy sado/masochism loving old hags. I'm sure that would've worked ;-)

10. I tried it in 2nd grade for a spelling test, the teacher caught me
and called my mother. The irony of the whole thing was that I had studied and knew how to spell all the words but panicked about being able to remember. :yoiks:

4. Things ARE worse than they were a year (or two) ago.
Obama (and Dems in general) have been horrifically bad at framing the argument that where we stand now is the result of the decisions we have made in the past.

Obama didn't "underestimate" the intelligence of most Americans, he OVERestimated. People want to be spoon fed and people like Palin are good at giving them what they want.

8. She was a sports newscaster.. her ambition was to work for ESPN.
She knows better than anyone how to read from a teleprompter.. its the reason she was so "good" at the convention... Since leaving the fold of the McCain presidential campaign speech writers, she is now showing us her real intellect... and its crazy, rambling, and incoherent. We glimpsed a little of that with her interviews with the media.. Charlie Gibson and Katie Curic... When she couldn't read from a teleprompter, we all were able to see the end of McCain's hope for becoming President.

13. I have heard people say those things and I am flabbergasted.
Can they NOT remember 1 yr ago? Do the TRULY expect Pres Obama to magically fix everything right away?

I agree that Pres Obama needs to be more direct, to talk down to people in ways they can understand.

"People, we are in some deep shit. We will not get out in 1 year or 2 years. It may take 5 to 10 years to recover from this disastrous Republican presidency of George W Bush. These folks that ran these huge unregulated banks have put great stress upon the economies of the world. Do not for one minute think that we are not all in this together..." indeed.

I hate having my pessimism proven to be reality.

15. My boss writes on his hand
Edited on Tue Feb-09-10 07:01 AM by MrsMatt
and he's hardly illiterate. His father had a doctorate, his mother and his wife are both teachers.

While writing on one's hand may be unprofessional, it is not an indicator of intelligence.

But, of course, in Palin's case, the argument could be made that there are exceptions.

19. If you're out at a club and writing down a phone number
it's entirely excusable. It might also be excusable in business when you're caught someplace with a pen but no paper.

However, as speech notes and in Sharpie, it's inexcusable.
