6. He seems to fit in with plenty of other Dems just fine.
IF he has to go, then so does half the party.

nut, yes, there is a sizable portion of the party that is practically Republican in their votes and views. You do make a good point.

A lot of it has to do with leadership. If someone (or more importantly several someones) in leadership positions in the Democratic Party organized a solid resistance to this trend of our legislators voting like Republicans on so many issues, it may drive some of the out and out conservatives out of the party. That is true, but it might bring back in quite a few who have been so disillusioned with the party for so long that they gave up and switched to more liberal third parties.

At the same time, it might also energize those who hold liberal views, but can't tell a difference between the parties, so they do not vote at all.

It might end up being a good thing after a few hard years.

As it stands now, even if we get a "majority" we don't really have enough votes to push progressive legislation through without a fight every.single.time.

No wonder the Republicans are just saying no and doing nothing. They don't have to lift a finger to derail more progressive legislation. Our own party is doing it for them. They have their interests represented with the conservative wing of the Democratic Party. It is that conservative wing of our party that is doing all the work for the Republicans. It really is like bad kabuki. It sucks.

13. No you're probably right - I think a closer generalization would be something like this:
1/3 are traitors - simply republicans by another name.

1/3 are cowards - they may have had good values in their hearts, like a desire to work of ordinary Americans and put their needs first, but somewhere along the way political power and concern over their own reelection became more important, causing them to cower and never take bold leadership on any critical issues

1/3 are sincerely trying to do some good and have the courage to take difficult stances.

Of that last one third:

Over 50% are sincere in their intentions and willing to take stands but don't believe there is anything structurally wrong or unjust about the American democracy or economy.

Less than 50% are sincere, and willing to take a stand, and believe that we have structural failures at the very core of our constitutional republic that must be addressed if our society is going to survive.

Now for me, the only people I believe are right and worth a damn are the less than 50% of that 1/3 or the Democratic Party.

:(

7. Sneak, no. Run as fast as he can and spare us any more of his nonsense, yes.
Yes, he should. If it gets to the point where none of a politician's views match the party any more, maybe it's time they move to the party they vote most with.

We don't really have a majority because of the ones like him who hijack any of our plans. We need to have a more coherent liberal alliance in our party that has the guts to stand up for what we claim we believe in. Do our Democratic leaders believe in our own party platform or not? That is the question.

I'm getting the feeling there are more than a few who do not agree with our platform at all. It's almost a sham that some of them are still in the party considering how consistently Republican they vote.
