South Carolina and the required registration of "subversives"
The South Carolina law requiring the registration of subversive people and groups is now officially on the books.
The law defines subversives as:

"(1) "Subversive organization" means every corporation, society, association, camp, group, bund, political party, assembly, body or organization, composed of two or more persons, which directly or indirectly advocates, advises, teaches or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States, of this State or of any political subdivision thereof by force or violence or other unlawful means; "

And defines people that would be required to register as:

"Every member of a subversive organization, or an organization subject to foreign control, every foreign agent and every person who advocates, teaches, advises or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States, of this State or of any political subdivision thereof by force or violence or other unlawful means, who resides, transacts any business or attempts to influence political action in this State, shall register with the Secretary of State on the forms and at the times prescribed by him. "

This should make for some interesting teabagging rallies in S.C., since they're quite prone to advocating secession and/or violence to regain control of the government. I'm not sure the law will actually hold up in court, since it seems to violate freedom of association from the 1st and protection against self incrimination from the 5th amendment.

The law can be found http://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t23c029.htm">here (S.C. State website.)

5. Next time I'm visiting parents in Beaufort
You'll be able to spot me: I'll be the one dressed more or less like the Unabomber.

This particular sword is rather double-edged. Heck, by their foggy definition S. Carolinians better watch what they say at the bar after they do their taxes.

6. No more Filibusters in the SC Legislature?

That would be a person of a "political party" trying to "control" the government by "force" by halting and obstructing legislation. If they are not a registered subversive that would subject them and other unregistered members of their political party to arrest.
