"NATO to Afghan Assault Villagers: Keep Heads Down"

KABUL - Afghan villagers should stay inside and "keep their heads down" when thousands of U.S. Marines launch a massive assault on a densely-populated district in coming days, NATO's civilian representative to Afghanistan said Tuesday.

U.S.-led NATO forces are planning one of the 8-year-old war's biggest offensives to seize Marjah, a patchwork of desert canals and opium fields that is now the last large Taliban-held bastion in Helmand, Afghanistan's most violent province.

Hundreds of civilians have fled, but most of the area's population, estimated at up to 100,000, remain in their homes in the face of what could be an unprecedented level of fighting.

1. I must be insane, but I'm ready to say "let's get this shit done already, and come home"

War is hell, and we need to END THIS CRAP. I know how you feel, and hopefully, there will not be any civilian deaths......

4. Terrorists don't warn civilians to keep their heads down
They intentionally kill them.

Yet another pro-terrorism initiative

NATO civilian representative Mark Sedwill said "sufficient" plans were in place to feed and house any civilians who flee, but declined to give details of how many displaced people NATO or the Afghan authorities had the capacity to assist.

5. You don't think telling people there is going to be a huge assault on their village
terrorizes them? Even if they are told to keep down they are still scared shitless. Terrified would be an even better word for it..

7. It's been that way since these wars started.
I was watching a heart breaking program on DemocracyNow? of one Iraqi family whose youngest child and nine year old was killed by Blackwater mercenaries who decided to open up artillery in a square crowded with civilians, shooting them in a frenzy. Neither war was a war of retaliation for 9-11. Both were attempts to gain control of the Middle East and the oil wealth between and within the two countries.

10. not to mention the whole Orwellian "civilian casualties happen because THEY hide among civilians"
of course it can't have anything to do with the invasion and the invaders' lobbing of bombs, now could it?

"we are the terrorists" does not make any sense to me. Our worldviews must be parsecs apart.

13. We are the terrorists. "We" the US. ..
We send drones to kill "suspected" terrorists on the say-so of the President, killing how many civilians in the process. We claim the right to assassinate anyone, anywhere in the world, that we don't like. Our mercenaries are crawling, like cockroaches, in numerous countries, blowing people away on a whim.

We are the terrorists.

14. When we announce weeks in advance where and when we are going to attack
Edited on Tue Feb-09-10 07:37 PM by librechik
it's a major clue that whatever is happening is not a real war for defense of the US, but something else. We did the same thing to Iraq.
