Sarah Palin, the Tea Party Princess.
They love her. They don't care what she says, or how she says it, or if there's any substance at all. They just love her. They love her pretty face. They love her stupidity. They love her so-called folksy charm. They love that she speaks to their rage. She speaks idiotic nonsense that would shame Reagan and they gobble it up like delicious candy.

And many of us are afraid of her...and of them. We're afraid of the stunning stupidity of people who think having a nutcase like Palin anywhere near the White House would be a good idea. We're afraid of how clearly unhinged Palin is...how vindictive and corrupt. We're afraid of the disastrous consequences if our already ailing country were put in her hands.

We have good reason to fear. We're dealing with an American public that put Bush in the White House twice. An American public that resents intellectualism and values shallowness and stupidity. An American public that is rightfully angry about how badly they are being screwed...but angry for all the wrong reasons. Do I have faith in this American public to have the good sense to keep this woman as far from the office of the president as possible? Sadly...not much.

However...I don't think she'll be president. I think that she's too unhinged to be a mainstream GOP candidate. I don't think GWB would ever even had a chance if he wasn't a Bush...and he's light years better than her. I would welcome Bush back with open arms for a third term before I would consider the prospect of a Palin presidency. Palin has fully embraced the Tea Party...a foolish move on her part.

The GOP will never fully embrace the Tea Party. The Tea Party is rife with racism, nativism, and birther nutcases. They don't dare condemn it, because they would risk alienating what remains of their base. However, were they to fully embrace it, it would kill their mainstream appeal. The Tea Party is not a 'beautiful movement' as Palin says...it is an ugly movement. A movement that represents everything sad and wrong about America...bigotry, misdirected anger, and gleeful ignorance.

Palin doesn't get that. She just wants the attention. She can't stand up to real scrutiny and hard questions. She sounds dumber than Bush and Reagan COMBINED, but it doesn't matter to her devoted followers. That's discouraging...but keep in mind, that's not a lot of people. They are loud and angry people, but they are not enough of a percentage of the population to carry her to the white house...or even to the GOP nomination.

If Palin runs in 2012, she will have stiff competition from within her own party. Romney, Huckabee, maybe Gingrich, maybe even Jeb Bush. All of them are smarter than her but every bit as underhanded, and they will rip her to shreds. To be honest, Huckabee himself is the greatest threat to Palin. He didn't quit as governor, he has more genuine folksy charm than Palin (I even find him kind of likable), and he is able to sound competent, which Palin can't manage on her best day.

I don't think she will win the GOP nomination. As for her chances if she does win...well, it'll be a tough battle. Our biggest enemy outside of the GOP itself is the media. A daunting foe indeed.

I just wanted to put this out there. Palin worries me. But I don't think she should worry me, and us, too much. If nothing else, the GOP doesn't want a rogue in the White House. They want a puppet. I just don't think she'll make a good puppet for them.

If you actually read all of this garbage, congratulations! :hi:

You know that many of these tea-baggers pleasure themselves to photos of her.

7. There was a great story in Game Change that gives me hope.
"In late October, Obama's focus group maestro, David Binder, was conducting a session with a group of swing voters in a Cleveland suburb. A middle-aged woman let loose with a string of not unfamiliar broadsides against Obama. He's a Muslim. He's soft on terrorism-because he's a Muslim. He doesn't put his hand on his heart during patriotic rituals. We're not even sure that he was born in this country.

Binder was confused. This was supposed to be a group of undecided voters. If you think all of these terrible things about Obama, he asked the woman, how can you possibly be undecided?

Because if McCain dies, Palin would be president, she said."
