Microsoft is running a Windows 7 ad in French
Microsoft is running a Windows 7 ad in French on NBC. There are English subtitles. I think that would be fairly controversial in this country. I don't know how long the ad has been running, but I bet it's going to attract some xenophobic attention pretty soon. I wonder what would happen if the ad was run in Spanish.

I haven't been able to find the ad, but it's running during the Olympics.

1. They are running an ad you have been unable to find?
Well, don't feel bad, I can't find it either.

:silly:

2. It's one of the official languages of the Olympics.
And Canada has 2 official languages as well, French and English.

6. Way to miss the point

The point is that it's uncommon to run non-english ads on US television. And when I say uncommon I mean almost never.

7. Well, then you're in for an exciting 21st century experience.
Because you'll be seeing lots of new and wonderful things on your TV.

12. I guess I don't see your problem, eh...
No doubt, lots of Canadians are watching NBC just now, many of whom speak French as their first language. Seems to make sense that a company would advertise to reach them. I'm sure there will be a Windows 7 ad in English that you can understand on before long. In the meantime, you'll just have to 1. read the subtitles, or 2. learn a little French.

Au revoir...

10. LOL that's cute.
But it's Olympic law, not Canadian in this case.

'French and English are the official languages of the Olympic Movement. The other language used at each Olympic Games is the language of the host country.'
