2. That's what divorce is for (just responding to your subject line)
Edited on Mon Feb-15-10 10:20 AM by lunatica
Without divorce we wouldn't have that second and third dazzling wedding which puts wedding planners, cake makers, florists, and retail stores to work. Without divorce lawyers would be jobless, courts would have to close two or three more days a week and children wouldn't need psychologists to help them make it through being fought over by their parents.

Divorce creates jobs. It's patriotic. Don't ban it.

11. Lest we forget: sales of coffee makers, tvs, living room chairs would plummet
That hit me one morning as I wandered through a big box store, open 24/7 a couple decades ago, shopping for items the newly exed spouse kept. Since I was so fragile, shopping at 3AM was just less stress. With few distractions in the store at that hour, my mind had time to sift around in the rubble my life had become and find bit of a silver lining: My shattered life and battered heart were, at least, good for the economy,

Without marriage, then divorce, fewer coffee makers would be sold in America!

10. well, when you have people like marilyn musgrave, and the whacko in Ca (can't remember her name)
and shulthies in CO, trying to get bills passed to make outlaw divorce (unless, if there are children, a year of counseling that one has to pay for) or make adultery a felony--and those AREN'T from the Onion, it is hard to know what is satire anymore.

12. One tongue-in-cheek suggestion I saw some time ago....
Have prospective brides and grooms wallpaper a small bathroom together.

If they're still together (or alive) at the end of it, they're ready for marriage.
