How Very Like Bayh
A last minute decision which hardly leaves time for another dem to get in the race. And Ellsworth, blue dog, is not the answer.

“<<<>>>
“The departure of Bayh, who has never lost an election either on the state or local level, leaves a gaping hole for national Democrats to fill. A top operative in the party told the Huffington Post that the decision was "last minute" and "personal," seemingly not driven by prospects of defeat.” Cont…

“A name floated by the operative as a possible replacement for the Democratic seat is that of Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D-Ind.) a blue dog from Evansville who came to office in 2006 riding an anti-Republican wave. Ellsworth, however, lacks the statewide name recognition of Bayh, whose father served in the Senate before him. Moreover, he will have to move remarkably fast in order to get his name on the ballot. The deadline to file is this Friday but candidates have to have 500 valid signatures from citizens in Indiana's nine Congressional Districts to properly certify his or her candidacy.” Cont///

6. Yeah, Bayh is a right wing asshole who wants to be replaced by a GOP
and that is very clear by the timing of this announcement.

However, the state party is really at fault by not having at least one candidate already signed and approved by this time. No Senator running for reelection should ever be considered a sure thing and all should have primary opponents ready and able to run.

The state party was caught flatfooted. One wonders if this would have happened had Dean still been national party chair.

10. What can one say, other than 'Bayh, Bayh'?
;-)

But will another Dem make a better candidate? Is the lack of an incumbent that much of a problem this year?
