Dollars to donuts.

Hope it was Larry, in the study, with the dossier

I'll join you in the study cause that was what I was thinking. Funny how Dems run for the hills when they get accused of something while the rethugs simply close the stall door and keep on keeping on!

34. Flynt offered $$ for proof of hypocrisy of pols a few years back
Seem to recall he would offer liars & cheats the chance to step down or face sour music. In the past, the man HAS put his resources where his mouth and Constitution loving heart is. One hopes lots of bounty hunters provided lots of files on lots of lying pols

But, sadly, my best guess is: well paid job in private sector; especially with Bayh's remark about being an executive....

Lots of pols must be expecting big pay-offs for their part in the destruction of Truth, Justice, and the American Way. This would be the cycle, as there ain't much more to give away and they sure as hell won't get re-elected after the screwing they have given voters.

71. Alive. And a few years back he offered $$ for proof of bad behavior
He set a bounty on "family values" pols who were doing things they railed against in public. Something like $10K for proof of politicians' hypocrisy. Said any pols he got dirt on would either step down or face the facts coming out.

Sure are a lot of pols dropping out of politics of late. I find it delicious to hope Larry had a posse that made lots of $$

open primary, you just have to say which party ballot you want when you enter the polling place. There is a procedure to challenge voters who take one oppposite of what they have usually taken, but I doubt it would be used at any site.

46. Don't they also have to turn in 500 signatures by TOMORROW?
Edited on Mon Feb-15-10 03:21 PM by csziggy
I've heard that mentioned at least twice so far. If Bayh had made this announcement Friday, it would have been a whole lot easier on the Democratic Party. As it is, they may not have a candidate for the primaries. One report just said that it is possible for the party to simply name who is running on the Democratic ticket, but they also said "It wouldn't be very Democratic."

WTH is Bayh doing?

Wikipedia on this:
"On February 15, 2010, Bayh announced he would not seek reelection to a third Senate term in the November 2, 2010 Congressional election, despite a strong cash position with approximately $13 million in the bank. Some observers have noted that due to his exit, Democrats have limited time to field a Senate candidate in the November 2 election, as the State of Indiana requires 500 signatures per congressional district by Tuesday, February 16th, 2010." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evan_Bayh#Retirement

Something had to have happened this weekend for him to do this to the party.

bread and butter for as long as his had unless it's pretty godawful and he can be seen as "sparing" his party. Otherwise, you've got LOTS of your political allies and connections REAL upset at you. And what good would he be to his future employer in that instance? Particularly, if your stock in trade is from a political dynasty...hmmm.

Am right way too often for my own liking.

Something is stampeding the herd. I figure the pols are expecting pay offs for their evil doins over the past years. One hopes the good guys have files on the bad guys and it's step down or face justice. I am just not that optimistic.

Corporate takeover just about complete. Pay day for some. But I hope it's the come-uppence they get instead. They sold America down the toilet.

I'm interpreting the behavior of wife/kids differently than most here.

I think she's doing okay, looking at him and smiling (rather than the stony-faced wronged-woman look), and the kids just looked uncomfortable as any kid that age would be standing in front of reporters and cameras.

And, just maybe he IS tired of all the BS -- God knows WE are!

What I DO find suspect is the timing, and the info that he was filming commercials until a few days ago, AND that his preface of the statement sounded almost like a "vote for me, here's what I accomplished" bit.

It'll be interesting to see what transpires.

I didn't hear him give the speech - the talking heads were talking about it with the film running in the background. I watched his kids and wife. There was something really off about their behavior. valuable for a Tauzin type job. I guess it is possible, but walking out like that and leaving his party stranded is a strange way of handling a job shift. Particularly in such a prominent political family such as his. It makes for one HELL of a lot of pissed off people and that can't be good if you're trying to sweet talk them...

I'd always heard that Mrs. Birch Bayh was a serial adulterer. The word used was actually the n-word, but I have no idea if that's okay to say these days.

Not to say one should cheat on one's spouse when they are dying, but it sounds like they had - at the very least - an open arrangement.

Only days ago, Bayh’s staff, close associates and Indiana Democratic Party Chairman Dan Parker, who was manager of Bayh’s re-election campaign, had assured an Indianapolis Star reporter that he would definitely seek a third term

in the U.S. Senate. And Democrats recently released a poll showing Bayh easily ahead of both former Sen. Dan Coats and former U.S. Rep. John Hostettler, two of the four Republicans seeking the GOP nomination.

44. That's what makes it so stinky to me.........
4 days? After reportedly filming commercials? Knowing that this would put IN Dems in a bad way?

Something is rotten here.

81. he's done a major disservice to any democratic challenger
it looks like he's helping the repugs, to me. If a scandal doesn't materialize, then he's further sold out. If his friends are saying he planned on retiring, then he basically screwed the party he was supposed to be representing.

47. There is probably a better choice of words to describe this
that mod that posted here could have told you that too.

52. Oh -- I THINK I get it (which is why my poste was probably
deleted). If it's what I'm thinking, that wasn't my intent at all -- it was purely a reference to Freud. Sorry if I offended anybody.

62. Well I, for one, "got" it as being Freud's statement about not reading into something
Edited on Mon Feb-15-10 04:32 PM by CTyankee
an idea that may just not be true.

66. You are welcome, Gateley. I could have made the same reply
and had no idea that it would be taken the wrong way. I cannot imagine you would ever say anything inappropriate on DU...

57. If they boys are twins, they sure don't look it
And I don't mean because they're not identical. One looks three or four years older than the other one.

His wife is definitely wiping tears away. I think the boys just aren't used to being in the spotlight like that.

I'm betting for a coming scandal, though. This is far too sudden if he was making ads just last week.

72. I just listened to a discussion about this on my local CBS news station
I don't know the cause of this, but I hate the spin being put on it by asshole repukes-in-hiding who are now trying to blame Obama.

Anyway, I admit I need to catch up on this story. It doesn't, at first glance, seem to be good news at all.

I don't understand politics anymore.

75. it may not be scandal-related at all...
it could be that it's just a way to set up circumstances to circumvent the voters and be able to cherry pick a nominee.

the repugs had that opportunity in illinois a few years back when 7-of-9's ex-hubby was forced to withdraw after winning the primary, when it was revealed that he had taken her to a 'swing club'(which basically proved that he must be insane- who in their right mind would ever share jeri ryan? ), and the repugs used the opportunity to choose alan fucking keyes as their candidate against a state senator named barack obama in the general selection in november. anyone remember how that worked out for them?
