Joe the plumber, poetic justice
Joe the Plumber dumps on John McCain and Sarah Palin

Before sinking back into well-deserved obscurity, Sam Wurzelbacher says John McCain 'really screwed my life up'

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/richard-adams-blog/2010/feb/16/joe-the-plumber-palin-mccain

----------------

President Obama, on the other hand, got more respect from the artist formerly known as Joe the Plumber: "I think his ideology is un-American, but he's one of the more honest politicians. At least he told us what he wanted to do."
...

Joe the plumber & Obama's statement to him, "spread the wealth around" was played over & over on Fox News, Unfair & Unbalanced.

Fast forward 16 months or so, and the man realizes that McCain is a multi-millionaire many times over - thanks to Cindy, while Sarah gets paid $100k for speaking for 45 minutes using a cheat sheet written on the palm of her hand.

It dawns on poor Joe, that despite their differences in ideology, he has more in common with this humble president than his flashy opponents.

Good for you Joe !

1. I'm not sure - Sarah Palin gets a lot of money for saying things that appeal to fox viewers
Joe the Plumber has gotten a lot of money for saying things that appeal to fox viewers.

Seems like they could find some common ground.

2. Nobody had a gun to his head...
he didn't have to participate in any way, and could have gone back to being a plumber. What a jerk.

3. I disagree...
Joe is your average Joe, intoxicated with right wing rhetoric, that is well articulated & propagated by Fox, Rush & such.

As an opinionated voter faced with unexpected fame, Joe was just riding the momentum of his 5 minutes of fame, and hoping to capitalize on it.

The left does not do a good job of making their arguments with the public, let alone learn to profit from it.

By failing to cook the ideological hamburger so anyone can easily eat & digest it, the left is failing to connect with the public at large, and thereby losing ground on some of the most basic issues.

Like retaining the Kennedy seat.

6. I Think You're Overestimating Him
He didn't get swept up. He thought he could parlay this into a career choice, but he was never valuable enough to matter. His ego got in the way. Not his naivete.

The left and Democratic platform is more complex than that of the right. The right's message is easy to convey. It is based in greed and fear of change. It is based in the ideals of rich White Protestant Males that they somehow single handedly built this country. The Democratic platform tries to balance individual freedom with collective prosperity. It tries to honor the contributions of the various groups who have built and contributed to society, while developing a unique "American" character. Democrats want everyone to have enough, while rewarding those who truly work harder, not just those who have and maintain a monopoly on wealth because of fortune or birth.

The reason that the left's message is more difficult to convey than the right's is because it asks for people to consider their neighbors and their community as a matter of civic responsibility. The message from the right tells people that it is best to think of themselves and that those who are struggling are doing so because they are somehow less worthy therefore do not deserve any help.

It is a lot easier to convince people to be angry, selfish, spoiled children than it is to convince them to work together for a common good where everyone has enough and we all need to be acting like mature, open minded, responsible citizens.

This guy thought he was getting a ride on the gravy train and is pissed that he was tossed overboard when the Republicans were done using him.
