I just love that little cardinal. It managed to pull me away from Ice Walker.

Many beautiful photographs did not make it to the finals, and the finals were a fierce competition of beautiful photographs, all worthy of winning, and every vote counted, just like in politics.

I'm grateful to all the photographers for their unwavering acceptance of me in their midst,

Winning this one was a real surprise for me, as a result regnaD kciN did all the work of hosting we were to have shared. He recognized that my photo had a chance of winning, I did not.

I love that little bird, such a bright splash of colour in the grayness of winter. A well-deserved win in a competition full of so many wonderful entries. Well done!

I tried my best to catch up, but your cardinal flew too fast for me.

is the cardinal's color touched up? It makes no never mind to me, but I've never seen one that bright. Or maybe its been so long since I've seen one I've forgotten how striking they can be.

What I did is in Picasa you can use spot color. Meaning you can indicate where you want the color to remain, and the size of it, and then take out the color in the rest of the photo.
That house, actually, is yellow with white trim.

The photo with the yellow house was quite striking. A contemporary feel with the red cardinal and the clean lines.
But I liked the winter feel of the black and white.

No manipulation of the red (even if I knew how :))

so rather than boosting the bird color, you have removed all the other color. Very interesting.............. :)

and it's done by some who are in the photo forum every now and then.

But picasa, a free down-loadable program, lets you turn the whole photo black and white leaving one spot of color where you can determine the size of the spot to some degree.

I'm looking out my own window, and there is a pair of cardinals at the feeder right now. I never get enough of seeing them.

Here's one I took sitting in the colors of the summer

running into pictures of them everywhere. I love yours. Thank you for my mother's favorite bird.

Every single pix is worthy. And like most people I am partial to several of them. Not because of technique or - I'm a point a click kinda gal. But, there are pix that I would love to frame and hang in my home. They bring a smile to my face. Thanks guys :grouphug:

We live within a mile of Spenard Lake/Lake Hood, so the planes are a pretty easy photo subject when I can't think of anything else to shoot. :)
