As of Wednesday early afternoon, nine senators had signed a letter urging passage of the public health insurance option through reconciliation.

Make it ten.

Sen. Bernie Sanders's (I-CT) spokesman Michael Briggs confirmed to Raw Story that he will join Democratic Sens. Michael Bennett (CO), Kirsten Gillibrand (NY), Jeff Merkley (OR), Sherrod Brown (OH), Al Franken (MN), Pat Leahy, John Kerry (MA), Sheldon Whitehouse (RI) and Roland Burris (IL) in a last-ditch push for the provision.

The first four co-sponsored the letter and released it Wednesday, and The Plum Line's Greg Sargent confirmed Thursday morning that the latter four will sign, just before Burris joined the list.

The signatories urge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (NV) to "bring for a vote before the full Senate a public health insurance option under budget reconciliation rules."

4. I'm confused
Why is my senator Patty Murray not on this list? It was my understanding that she fought for the public option in the beginning and was even in favor of reconciliation. Is she no longer fighting for the public option? She is up for re-election so it would surprise me if she is not fighting for it. I know Maria Cantwell was willing to throw the public option away if it meant getting something passed but I thought Patty Murray was fighting for the public option. I am going to be dissapointed if she doesn't fight for it because if she isn't fighting for the public option I won't vote for her.
