Mount Vernon Statement: Why we suck at political theater
Ya gotta admit, the conservatives have a real knack for political theater.

Yesterday, 80 of them gathered at Mount Vernon's "Museum on Americanism" to sign the Mount Vernon Statement, a parchment-y document full of vague patriotic-sounding conservative principles and lofty ideals. It's fascinating, really. You could pick it apart point by point, but that doesn't really matter.

Because Americans don't want to be bored with the details. Just give them the theater.

I mean, look at the names of the tea-party supporting organizations:
FreedomWorks
Americans for Prosperity
American Majority
Friends for Liberty

How can you be against these groups? What are you, un-American?
This stuff sells. Sad but true.
