Overwhelming Majority of Dems, Reps & Independents OPPOSE Corporations United decision
Washington Post, February 17, 2010.

Especially with yesterday's release of the poll excerpted below, it is incredibly clear that the American public is overwhelmingly and strongly opposed to Citizens United across all parties, races, classes and incomes.

All that remains is to broaden the actual fight against the decision to issues more fundamental than "foreign money" which, even if successful, does nothing against the main issue - ideological nonprofit corporations like Citizens United itself, and "American" corporations like Exxon Mobil and Wal-Mart.

Americans of both parties overwhelmingly oppose a Supreme Court ruling that allows corporations and unions to spend as much as they want on political campaigns, and most favor new limits on such spending, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. {...} The poll reveals relatively little difference of opinion on the issue among Democrats (85 percent opposed to the ruling), Republicans (76 percent) and independents (81 percent).

Nearly three-quarters of self-identified conservative Republicans say they oppose the Supreme Court ruling, with most of them strongly opposed. Some two-thirds of conservative Republicans favor congressional efforts to limit corporate and union spending, though with less enthusiasm than liberal Democrats.

Indeed, the poll shows remarkably strong agreement about the ruling across all demographic groups, and big majorities of those with household incomes above and below $50,000 alike oppose the decision. Age, race and education levels also appeared to have little relative bearing on the answers. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/17/AR2010021701151.html

The Poll was conducted Feb. 4 to 8 by conventional and cellular telephone. The margin of sampling error for the for the full poll of 1,004 randomly selected adults is plus or minus three percentage points.

2. Agreed, though it's more like corporate superiority/corporate rule to be repealed

If corporations were simply equal to one person in all respects, the problem would be a drop in the bucket compared to what we actually have. That being said, they are obviously not "persons" possessed of inalienable rights or rights of constitutional free speech in the political realm.

17. And yet another poll just out with huge numbers, link here
http://www.surveyusa.com/client/PollReport.aspx?g=05cabb5f-599f-47a8-98fb-e3e254e425e4&c=161

The results of the poll include the following:

* 78% believe that corporations should be limited in how much they can spend to influence elections, and 70% believe they already have too much influence over elections

* 73% believe Congress should be able to impose such limits, and 61% believe Congress has done too little in the past to limit corporate influence over elections

* Of the over 60% of Americans who have an opinion on a constitutional amendment to fix Citizens United, supports runs greater than 2 to 1

* 82% support limits on electioneering by government contractors, and 87% support limits on bailout recipients

* 85% support a complete ban on electioneering by foreign corporations

* 75% believe that a publicly traded company should get shareholder approval before spending money in an election

* 69% think that the President, in the event of a Supreme Court vacancy, should nominate a Justice who supports limits on corporate spending in elections

23. This must surely be a bell-wether of the precisely how desperate a plight your country
is under its current rulers. A spectrum of opposition ,ranging between 76 percent and 85 percent, sounds about as conclusive a majority as any poll or set of polls could get on any subject.

Well done, Paul>
