Marshall endorsed by women's group
A national women's group has endorsed Secretary of State Elaine Marshall for U.S. Senate.

Marshall, a Democrat, is seeking her party's nomination for the seat currently held by Republican U.S. Sen. Richard Burr.

The National Women's Political Caucus endorsement is the third Marshall has received from a national women's group. likely to become a part of that sales pitch. Marshall is the only woman in the race and is likely trying to get the attention of women voters in the Democratic primary, which also includes Chapel Hill lawyer Ken Lewis and Lexington lawyer and Iraq war vet Cal Cunningham.

“When I grew up and became the owner of a small business, I discovered that if I wanted a line of credit, my husband had to go to the bank and apply for the loan—because I was a woman," Marshall said in a news release announcing the endorsement. Marshall said her political career has been devoted to speaking up for those without a voice.
