Scholasticam, Orwell, and a student's right to retaliate....
I was just pondering a whatif scenario. What if a student put CCD cameras on the bedroom windows of the principal and many of the rest of the persons involved with the scholasticam debacle.. then sat on the side of their houses in their vehicles recording what may come.... and relayed to all of the affected students what they observed??? Now wouldn't that be something? Would that cure the "authorities" from being STUPID?? I think it would result in a fantastic educational experience for the ones in charge of the teaching.

Ignorance is amenable to amelioration, stupid is forever.

Edited to add: Thinking Orwell was writing an instruction manual is open and shut evidence of teh st00pid..

2. Scholasticam... kinda has a nice ring to it... perhaps it will be entered
into the dictionary just to put a real burr under the saddle of people who believe the constitution still stands.

3. That would be a treat!
I was busy yesterday and missed the whole scholasticam story until last night when my wife told me about it. Speechless, thinking I misinterpreted what she said, I asked her to repeat what had taken place. After she did....well suffice it to say I can't repeat the words that spewed from my mouth like rocket-propelled projectile vomit.

4. Hmm - better revenge would be dancing around naked in front of the 'camera'....
...and dropping the dime on the school for collecting kiddie porn.

Wouldn't the students be considered juveniles and as such not subject to prosecution for
'dancing naked w/the devil in the pale moonlight'?

5. An additional suggestion.
How about the students do some quality P.I. work on the shady operations of the School's Administration and broadcast that ... via webcam and on the YouTube?

8. Don't want them to monitor you?
Piece of black electrical tape over the camera lens.

Don't want them to monitor you browsing-Linux Live CD and external flash drive to save anything on that you want to download.

9. the black tape over the cam isn't the problem--the PROBLEM is a damned administration that thinks it
is allowed, entitled, to do this--a school administration completely oblivious to little things like the constitution, privacy, laws on child pornography, etc. THAT is the issue, NOT whether or not you can cover up the web cam.

surely you can understand that tiny little fact?

10. I didn't say that wasn't the problem.
Snooping is wrong. I'm suggesting a way to beat the snooping. It's called countermeasures in the security world. The nice thing about using a Linux Live disk is that they can't activate the snooping through the OS on the hard drive. If I suspect I'm being watched, the best response is not to give the fact that you know away to the watchers.

11. If they can/are allowed to control the web cam they can capture keystrokes and
track your browsing. Invasive practices like this need to be stopped at the source.
