Militia Movement; inside the Michigan Militia

MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – The Michigan Militia, a group of well-armed activists, has been in and out of the news for more than a decade. Often, they say that media attention has come for the wrong reasons.

The militia has been controversial because of its axe to grind with the U.S. Government, and its link to Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.

But are they really training to be home-grown terrorists as some suggest?

In a special report, Newschannel 3 took a look at the militia, and got a first-hand account of their marching orders.

They do their training in firearms and first aid, but ultimately few really know what the volunteer militia is getting ready for, other than to arm themselves against the government should the need arise. It's the guns that scare people who think the men and women of the Michigan Militia are actually training to kill.

5.  And paint their faces green. It's fine if they are only
in "defense" mode. If they go into "offense" mode, look out.

2. "Timothy McVeigh, a known bread eater, blew up a building."
Now when you go the store and buy some bread they're going to say, 'Oh he's eating bread just like Timothy McVeigh,'” said Miracle.

This tells me all I need to know about Mr. Miracle and his Militia. Eating bread is one thing, practicing maneuvers in the woods with guns is quite another.

And then there is this little gem:

"After being kicked out of Michigan, the militia's founder moved to Alaska where he runs a similar group."

6. The groups started here
in the Thumb area mostly. After McStupid blew up the Murrah Bldg, a lot of members realized what the groups were advocating and left. Now that a black man is president, they are getting stronger again.

4. These types of groups should be outlawed.
They have no right to operate with caches of weapons within our borders.

8. The United States already has armed militias in the form of our military and National Guard
Has nothing to do with the 1st and 2nd amendments.

9. I really wish you anti-constitution types would try to outlaw certain organizations.
It would do this country a world of good to get a good look at you.

10. Corrections for someone who has advocated foreign armies on our soil:
Militia pre-date both the military and the National Guard; in fact the Guard came about after the Civil War, and is subject to the military (as authorized by Congress in the Articles).

Further, the vast number of constitutional scholars, attorneys and historians who have studied the Second Amendment have concluded that the Second Amendment recognizes an INDIVIDUAL right to keep and bear arms, and the SCOTUS has confirmed this; i.e., the ownership of firearms is not contingent upon being in the militia, or guard, or military. Even Laurence Tribe, the grand poo-bah of the "militia clause" for over 30 years, has backtracked and now says 2A recognizes an "individual right" to keep and bear arms.

When you legally ban organizations, you violate the 1st Amendment protection to "peaceably assemble," and when you do so because they have guns, you violate the Second as well.

11. Really?
Do you really find our Constitution and our Bill of Rights that offensive?
