Iraq War To Be Rebranded 'Operation New Dawn'- Same Name as Given To Fallujah Invasion
New Dawn was the name for the bloody and grueling 2004 battle for Fallujah.

Iraq War To Be Rebranded 'Operation New Dawn'

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama's administration plans to rebrand its military operation in Iraq "Operation New Dawn," beginning September 1, a Pentagon memorandum shows.

The memo, signed by US Defense Secretary Robert Gates, shows the Pentagon approving a request to switch the name of the US military effort in Iraq from its current designation -- "Operation Iraqi Freedom."

"The request... is approved to take effect 1 September 2010, coinciding with the change of mission for US forces in Iraq.

"Aligning the name change with the change of mission sends a strong signal that Operation Iraqi Freedom has ended and our forces are operating under a new mission," Gates wrote in the memo, first reported by ABC News.

The document, which is addressed to General David Petraeus, the head of US Central Command, adds the rebranding "presents opportunities to synchronize strategic communication initiatives... and recognize our evolving relationship with the government of Iraq."

2. God Dammit! How many bureaucrats do they have whose job is to come up with these stupid names for
programs. Especially for war moves, it is more than offensive.

Do they actually think that people will find it easier to swallow their shit if they give it some cutesy name?

5. Great, we all remember how well the Falluja Battle went?
Renaming the occupation after the MOST horrific battle to date is sure to capture the hearts and minds of the native people. :sarcasm:

Fallujah: Over 600 Dead, 1,000 Injured, 60,000 Refugees

http://www.democracynow.org/2004/4/12/massacre_in_fallujah_over_600_dead

The U.S. siege of Fallujah continues and reports are emerging of a massacre of Iraqi civilians at the hands of U.S. troops. We go to Iraq to get a report from Free Speech Radio News’ Aaron Glantz who interviews Iraqis fleeing Fallujah as well as a producer with Al-Jazeera television who says he and fellow journalists were targeted by U.S. snipers in the town.

8. OMG! You must live in a parallel universe? All the natives will remember is the horrible memories
of the Fallujah Massacre.

I'm so ashamed of my Country right now ... especially our unauthorized use of White Phosphorous. Burns open flesh down to the bone! :(

9. The name may be offensive, but the war is basically over
That is all I care about. We are leaving Iraq very soon after an invasion and occupation that was illegal. President Obama is doing what he said he would do and I could not be happier.

10. No, that's the point. It's sending a message to the natives that we will be there FOREVER.
Renaming this after the Fallujah Massacre is an open insult the Iraq Leadership and a REMINDER that the Empire will not ever loosen it's stranglehold over THEIR Country.

13. No we're not. No way! Didn't you get the memo, we're stirring up the rhetoric
against Iran. By next year, Israel will have made a strike on Iran and we will, once again, increase troop strength in Iraq for BY GOD, National Security.

Even IF we don't allow Israel to Bomb Iraq, we'll still have a 50,000 to 80,000 footprint in that country not to mention an equal or greater number of private contractors.

What happens WHEN civil war begins anew in Iraq?

Nope, buckle yourselves in for over a decade of 80,000 to 100,000 of "cannon fodder" troops with their large complements of private contractors.

It's our favorite money pit ... Iraq's Oil is our beloved "GOD ALMIGHTY."

14. We are removing all our combat forces from Iraq in September 2011
The date is set in stone. The American people will not put up with our presence in Iraq much longer.

23. Why not just call it EEEE-Rock and leave it alone to decide its own destiny
I am so pissed that after all this time, too many people still say EYE-rock..and even more seem to think we "need" to be there.

Our little adventure in Iraq only really benefited Iran (EEEE-rahn), by elimiinating Hussein, and creating even more enmity of anything USA, in the middle east, so why not just pack up and leave..

oh yes.. now I remember.. there is that OIL..:eyes:
