Take that, terrorist! We couldn't find you but we killed your innocent brother!
Edited on Fri Feb-19-10 02:44 PM by ohiodemocratic
ABC: "A younger brother of Sirajuddin Haqqani, one of the strongest Afghan Taliban commanders whose fighters concentrate on Kabul and eastern Afghanistan, was killed when a missile fired by a CIA drone struck a car in which he was travelling, according to a Pakistani intelligence officer and a local resident.

The drone strike occurred Thursday in North Waziristan, the base for the Haqqani network and for many Arab and Taliban militants who fight in both Afghanistan and Pakistan.

But Muhammad Haqqani, the youngest son of famed mujahedin commander Jalaluddin Haqqani and his first wife, played no significance in the Taliban network, according to the intelligence officer.

The CIA has targeted the Haqqani and its allied networks in North Waziristan extensively, especially since a suicide bomber killed seven CIA officers just across the border in Khost, Afghanistan, in late December."

5. War was not declared on North Korea either. I don't think
the approx.50,000 US troops that died there would find that of much interest to them.

War,declared or not,is hell.

11. Those "police actions" were also abhorrent. We haven't be in "a just war" since WWII.
Wars that have not been declared are "state sponsored terrorism." I don't think you would consider it JUST if a "killer drone" killed your family on the way home from the grocery store. Gee, isn't it convenient that THEIR SIDE doesn't have that capability? It doesn't make such actions any less VILE especially when innocents are both targeted and killed by long distance "video players." :puke:

16. Because there was a "just cause" ... it's not ever OK to target civilians.
I was watching EuroNews the other day and noted that there are still Germans in Dresden who didn't ... well let's just say "appreciate" the firebombing of their city during World War II and held a protest on it's Anniversary. :nuke:

My best friend in grade school committed suicide by jumping in front of a bus. Why? He was half Japanese and the children in our school teased him incessantly. During the 60s, the memories of WWII were still so "raw" their racist poison filtered down to their children.

War is NOT the answer. We are NOT at war. You may be, but I'm not. :(

By Garry Wills. It discusses all of the secretive, dangerous, and let's say authoritarian things the US govt. did/does to develop and maintain the bomb. You should check it out.

War being what it is innocents will often be injured or killed.

War is hell, and always has been and always will be.

13. so the point is?
is this an excuse for the death of an innocent, or are you just repeating something everyone has heard: "war is hell"?

2. More summary executions of the innocent ... no arrests, no charges, just death and destruction.
God Bless or God Almighty Death Planes! :puke:

The Obama administration is stepping up use of drone "killer planes" all over the Middle East. When do you think he'll authorize them for Law Enforcement for your/my neighborhoods? :scared: :nuke:

But isn't terror terror irregardless if your victim is a fan of Karl Marx
So let's bring on the cluster bombs and napalm, kill off some people, fish and sharks

Well I thought I would head north, go someplace where I might feel safe
These thoughts all seemed a bit unsettling, I was feeling a bit like a lost waif
It was then I thought I'd move to Costa Rica, though such a thing seemed terribly uncouth
Because I suddenly realized with horror, the terrifying clear and present truth

I guess we're gonna have to bomb Washington, DC, 'cause terrorists are lurking all around
Sending soldiers, guns and money wherever death squads and dictators may be found
So let's appreciate the situation, take your Orwell off the shelves

If we are to listen to our President then we're going to have to bomb ourselves

4. If the younger brother was close enough to be mistaken for the actual taliban commander
he was too close. I regret that the wrong person was killed, but I hope it sends a message to the 'innocents' who maintain close ties with the terrorists. Lesson learned: if you want to live, avoid the proximity of people who are being tracked by drone aircraft.

6. according to the Washington Post...
The elder Haqqani's eponymous Haqqani Network, an al-Qaeda linked group that has historically been shielded by Pakistan's security establishment, controls large areas of southern Afghanistan. Another Haqqani son, Siraj Haqqani, is the current leader of the organization.

Mohammad Haqqani was a local commander in the network, and one official in a nearby village said he was considered to be less brutal than his brother. The official said the drone strike also killed four other people he described as "foreign militants," a phrase generally used in the region to refer to fighters who have come to Pakistan from Arab countries.

14. Very true. And WHO exactly defines who is "a target" for execution, a terrorist?
Edited on Fri Feb-19-10 05:27 PM by ShortnFiery
In Afghanistan, I'd bet they are mostly "our puppet" Hamid Karzai's Political enemies.

That's such a crime. We are propping up an illegitimate leader yet we say our cause is just and any family member deserves to die because they essentially "got in the way" of our righteous Killer Drones.

I'm ashamed that our President is using this chicken=shit method of EXECUTING M.E. thug's political enemies. No arrest, no charges, no trial, just on ONE PERSON's say they are targeted and KILLED.

It's just plain VILE and not war, it's *terrorism.* Is it any wonder that the poor and disenfranchised Middle Eastern Nations hate the USA's guts? Sure, they'll take our money and "play nice" while we occupy their areas. They'll even say all the right things. However, once our troops pull out, they will warmly welcome the War Lords. Why? They are the regulars and they are there in their native lands to stay.

This situation is not unlike the Vietnam "conflict," the natives were PATIENT and never quit fighting us. We killed over 2 million of those people but they would not stop resisting. It's called "nationalism" and we can NOT overcome it through bombing runs and occupations.
