Giles Admits O'Keefe, Breitbart ACORN 'Pimp' Story was a Lie: 'It Was B-Roll, Purely B-Roll'

Giles Admits O'Keefe, Breitbart ACORN 'Pimp' Story was a Lie: 'It Was B-Roll, Purely B-Roll'
Woman who posed as prostitute confirms repeated misreporting by NYTimes, many others...

Speaking to Washington Independent reporter David Weigel today at CPAC, Hannah Giles, who posed as a prostitute in James O'Keefe and Andrew Breitbart's infamous, highly-doctored, heavily-overdubbed, secretly-taped ACORN hit videos, confirms what we've been reporting for several weeks here: O'Keefe never dressed as a pimp in the offices of ACORN.

Reports Weigel today (emphasis added):

I asked Giles about a criticism that’s often been leveled against them — that they hyped up the video by wearing outrageous clothes in promotional materials and the videos’ introductions that they didn’t wear in the actual stings.

“We never claimed that he went in with a pimp costume,” said Giles. “That was b-roll. It was purely b-roll. He was a pimp, I was a prostitute, and we were walking in front of government buildings to show how the government was whoring out the American people.”

Giles admission is in stark contrast to:
  • O'Keefe's knowingly deceptive appearances on Fox "News" "dressed exactly in the same outfit that he wore in these ACORN offices up and down the Eastern Seaboard";

  • Breitbart's out-and-out lies in his own 9/21/09 column to help promote the videos by claiming they show O'Keefe and Giles "going to the Baltimore offices of ACORN ... dressed as a pimp and a prostitute and asking for - and getting - help for various illegal activities";

  • Breitbart's 2/15/10 tweet to The BRAD BLOG claiming that he's "told truth every step of way";

  • and the repeated misreports by the New York Times (which they still stand behind despite all lack of evidence) and the many other mainstream outlets who were similarly hoodwinked into reporting the same phony story.

More, including details on responses from NYTimes Public Editor Clark Hoyt to The BRAD BLOG's repeated calls for retractions from the "paper of record"…

37. I guess if Fox "News" told them so
it must be TRUE. Right?

That's what they get for believing in Fox news and how it makes them all look like asholes.

Roger Ailes told everyone on 'Meet the Press' that he wasn't into politics but ratings, and they don't know the difference.

wait for the storm of attention to pass. Once it subsides, they'll go back to their same old brain-dead lies as if the truth never came out.

Their value system just isn't based upon a regard for the truth.

Yes, the whole Pimp outfit was pure B-roll, AND THAT IS NOT NEWS.

You would know that if you had actually watched the videos. You can see O'Keefe in all the videos, and you can see that he was never in the pimp outfit when he was in the ACORN offices. Again, this is not news, it has always been known to anyone that watched the full videos. The only people that it might be news to is people who only watched Fox News reports that showed only a five second clip of O'Keefe walking around in a pimp outfit. If you are one of those people, I feel sorry for you. You really need to get a better source of information.

Or the people whose "source of information" might include: New York Times, Baltimore Sun, CNN, New York Post, Washington City Paper, Philadelphia Daily News, NPR, Dallas Morning News, etc. as I detailed and quoted right here: http://www.bradblog.com/?p=7705

81. It wasn't obvious...
...It was purposefully deceptive. The tapes were edited to show him, just as he walked about of offices, immediate cut away to exterior of him and Giles in pimp outfit.

You had to watch *very* closely to see at all that he wasn't wearing that outfit in the 2 or 3 seconds in one of the tapes (first one released) that showed him walking into the office not wearing it.

It was a purposeful deception. Breitbart lied about it in his own WashTimes column:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/sep/21/breitbart-the-politicized-art-behind-the-acorn-pla/
When filmmaker and provocateur James O'Keefe came to my office to show me the video of him and his friend, Hannah Giles, going to the Baltimore offices of ACORN - the nation's foremost "community organizers" - dressed as a pimp and a prostitute and asking for - and getting - help for various illegal activities, he sought my advice.

On Fox with O'Keefe sitting there being introduced, dressed in the pimp costume:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vL68WFEw2Gk
I'm sure you've been seeing some of the videos from BigGovernment.com --- and also that we've been running here on Fox News --- showing these ACORN employees in Baltimore and also in Washington and now in Brooklyn, New York. These videos were put together by filmmaker James O'Keefe, whose joining us on the couch. He's dressed exactly in the same outfit that he wore in these ACORN offices up and down the Eastern Seaboard.

Now that's no excuse for mainstream outlet after mainstream outlet getting the story completely wrong. Obviously, they should have checked, verified, been much more careful. But if the people whose job it is is to verify such things got it so completely wrong, surely you're not suggesting Mr. & Mrs. America looked at those edited tapes, and coverage of it, and knew he wasn't dressed that way.

That's absurd, and I believe you know it.

What's worse, of course, is that all those media outlets were HOAXED and not one of them, to my knowledge, has yet to issue a retraction. I hope folks will contact them and ask them why the hell they haven't and when the hell they will.

If they were fooled before, they WILL be fooled again. And probably by the same inveterate con-men.

Breitbart Lied About ACORN 'Pimp' Videos When Selling Story in His Own Washington Times Column

That last story above lists TONS of other news outlets who falsely reported on this.

PLEASE consider writing a polite letter to the NYTimes Public Editor Clark Hoyt to request retractions, corrections and an investigating as to how they could have been so desperately wrong in their reporting, and what they will do to keep that from happening again! He is at: Public@NYTimes.com

27. The one to contact is Public@NYTimes.com since...
...since the Times Sr. Editor of Standards has already decided to stand behind the story and that no correction is necessary since (direct quote from his email):

Our article included that description because Mr. O'Keefe himself explained how he was dressed --- and appeared on a live Fox show wearing what HE said was the same exact costume he wore to ACORN's offices.
...
If there is a correction to be made, it seems it would start with Mr. O'Keefe himself. We believe him. Therefore there is nothing for us to correct.

39. Actually, yes it is. It proves how doctored the videos were.
They tried to make it absolutely apparent that they were wearing these outfits when they went into ACORN's offices. O'Keefe actually went along with Red Eye Fox hosts in joking about how gullible these people were to fall for it when they came in dressed like that. Not once did he or Giles betray that they were actually not dressed like that. In fact, it was part of the doctoring of these videos to make these people look as stupid as possible.

Now we know he and she were lying. There is now proof that they doctored a great portion of the videos to look like something that they were not. Of course, showing a video tape of a guy they were interviewing with a voice over of what he was saying instead of actually playing the audio was already enough for me. As was the choppy editing.

The lie about the pimp outfits throws absolutely everything else in the videos into question. The videos don't and never did have one ounce of credibility. And this is the smoking gun.

43. No, he asked helped in getting his GIRLFRIEND a house to ESCAPE abusive pimp!

He ask for no "help pimping". He represented himself as her boyfriend, trying to get her (and the underage girls) out of the clutches of the abusive pimp who had stalked and tried to kill her. That's why she needed a house. To get away from him and to save the girls.

All of that is apparent on the text transcripts, but completely misrepresented in the doctored, over-dubbed videos.

As Breitbart and O'Keefe refuse to release the unedited videos, all we can go on is what THEY represented in the transcripts (if not in the edited versions of the hit videos).

40. And that Obama is black and ACORN is a black organization that "he worked for"
They are constantly claiming Obama worked for ACORN when he only represented them a couple of times as an attorney. They are trying hard to associate Obama with ACORN and paint the organization with the worst sterotypes whites have of blacks.

The whole thing is about playing to racism and they should have been called on it from the get go. But the media, congress, and for some reason Jon Stewart I'm sorry to say, fell for it like major league chumps.

35. Bradblog- your thread title is totally misleading and you did it on purpose.
Edited on Fri Feb-19-10 08:15 PM by KittyWampus
So what, one of the video crew says he didn't wear that idiotic outfit into the office. THAT might be a lie, but so what. They aren't admitting to lying about the entire charade the way your thread title tries to claim. They may be dumb but they aren't that stupid.

Frankly, I think you are too dense to realize that trumpeting the fact O'Keefe was NOT wearing the ridiculous cartoon of a get-up gives his already flimsy story a modicum of credibility. Because if he did go into the office with that ratty fur coat on and walking stick it would have been glaringly obvious he was dressed up and play-acting.

You want to make a name for yourself as a news source, then stop making up thread titles for stories that are misleading. Furthermore, this was reported earlier. There is nothing new.

38. So it's time for congress to issue ACORN a public apology.
Also, it's time for them to issue the country an apology for joining a lynch mob. It's terrifying how quickly these morons were willing to throw this organization under the bus with little more than a HIGHLY DOCTORED video tape as evidence. Truly truly sickening.

And AL Franken, I'm ashamed to say, was one of them. True champions of the poor until they are embarrassed by them and jump to the wrong conclusion. This just pisses me off more now than it did at the time even.

I worked in inner city social service agencies and this pair just disgusted me from the start on they preyed on these vulnerable people to satisfy their bigotry.

42. Mn acorn has closed its doors
Because of the right wing media frenzy over this crap. What really pissed me off was that so many "liberals" were so ready to join the lynching party. Including most of the posters her at DU. Even our two democratic senators jumped right on.

they are told to do.

This entire disgusting episode was set up just to close down ACORN and end its funding..WHY? Because the vast majority of the work ACORN does in registering voters is with people who vote Democratic... THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE.

45. Hannah Giles: "We never claimed that [O'Keefe] went in with a pimp costume"
1. Who is 'We'? Does it include Breitbart?

2. She says 'never claimed'. Yes, she and he CLAIMED it - by their editing. There were millions who believed the sequence and the dress.

Now we know. She's toast with the non-fox world.

ACORN is still paying the price for this --

And Democrats will lose a very effective organization for registering voters!

56. K&R -- the power of right wing PR
We have seen a false right wing story take over our national news for long enough that I'll bet if you poll the public in a year or two they'll believe the story was true.

60. Methinks it is a little too late for Hannah's meaculpa.

Seeing how she has mounting legal problems wouldn't admitting to fraud now be the death knell for her?

And for O'Keefe?

And for Breitbart?

62. I never realised anyone thought he was 'dressed as a pimp' in the interviews
I thought it was damn obvious that was him playing at dressing-up for publicity shots.

The important bit is 'highly-doctored' and 'heavily-overdubbed'. It's not as if it makes the slightest bit of difference how O'Keefe was dressed. What's important is whether the words of either him, Giles or the ACORN employees are misrepresented. What's in question isn't whether ACORN employees made a snap judgement based on people's dress sense.

72. Agreed
I don't know why anyone could have ever thought that O'Keefe was in his pimp outfit in the actual ACORN office, given that the video showed him, errrr, not in a pimp outfit in the actual ACORN office.

69. What about them? What did they say?
...and before answering that, you may wish to peruse the transcripts rather than the videos which COMPLETELY misrepresented what they said and why they said it.
